We were just there around Thanksgiving. We planned on camping at Wild Rivers National Recreation Area, but missed our turn and I was to lazy to drive all the way back. We found a forest service road(#9 or 493 I can't remember) off 522 that led to some really nice dispersed camping along the Rio Grande.
Manby Hot Springs is close by if you feel like a soak. _________________ "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote." - Benjamin Franklin |

There is plenty of National Forest surrounding Taos. Dispersed camping upto 14 days (free). No crowds, plenty of resources, and the 4x4s will help find a sweet spot. _________________ 1984 Vanagon Westfalia Wolfsberg |

Santa Fe National Forest looks like the obvious choice with the cool town of Santa Fe nearby. Thanks for the reminder. It is closer than Moab and a whole new area for me to explore. Temps in May look like they average in the 70s. Nice |

|
|
I'm looking for ideas for places to camp in northern New Mexico. We usually head to UT in the spring but are looking for someplace to meet a friend from TX part-way. I'm in Denver.
Wish list:
Tent camping (not taking my bus)
5-days in late May, yes, over Memorial day
Three dudes, no kids/spouses/dogs.
Both driving 4-wheel drive rigs
No crowds (asking too much?)
good hiking, biking
Any feedback would be appreciated.
