What is the most likely cause of fuse blowing when I put my wipers on LOW. Running them on HIGH works fine, but on low, when the arms have moved all the way left and are just starting to jump back to going to the right, the entire electrical system of the car blinks off for a second, then the next time the fuse blows. Is it most likely the switch, wiper motor, or is there a wiper relay? _________________ 1973 Super Beetle

since it's not instantaneous, I'd say it sounds like the fuses are blowing because of a high load on the wiper motor. May need cleaning. Others will chime in to support or disagree with my hypothesis. _________________ 1969 Beetle

Need a really good mechanic for your VW bus? Consider making an appointment with Colin (Amskeptic) next time he passes thru your area. |

X2
Highest mechanical load would most likely be at either extreme of travel. A good full removal of shafts to clean and lube would do wonders. Maybe scribe things before removal so they align on replacement. _________________ If you haven't bled on them, you haven't worked on them.

Yep! All of it! Arm shafts binding through their travel have long been notorious culprits when it comes to troubleshooting wiper problems. The more severe the bind the higher the load potentially on the motor. |
