|
|
Just got a call from my friend Simon, he was skiing with his family at Sunshine in Banff, Alberta.
When they got back to the parking lot their van was gone.
The roof is now the same color as the body. It's a syncro with SCA highroof (similar to Reimo). Interior is late model grey Westy,
large Engel fridge, 225/75r16 on mefro. ALH TDI at 50 deg.
They are a young family who have had syncro bad luck already when their first van was rolled by a friend.
Please everyone in the Calgary, Southern Alberta area pass the word around/be on the lookout.

Banff is one of our favorite getaways as well. We've been installing the steering wheel club on trips, and will continue with that.
Eyes out in N. Idaho as well. Such a bummer.
That one should stand out with that type of top, at least down here.
Hopes for a speedy recovery. |

Will keep lookout here in the Kootenays. Banff is not far.
That van will stick out with the SCA top. Hopefully it won't be stripped. _________________ Currently:

Thanks everyone, the kind words and support are appreciated.
Between me and him A LOT of work went in to this van in the past 2 years.
And it was used a lot too..
Calgary is growing a very nice van community lately so it's great to know all those eyes will be watching.. |

That is a pretty unique van. Even if it were painted another colour, that is not a common set up here so it'll stand out. What a drag for the owners. People going with the e-TDIs or any conversion engine should really consider putting a GPS locator and an ECU "killer" unit in their van- something they can operate remotely. With what these vans are worth these days, what's another $500 or thereabouts for added insurance? It might actually help with insurance rates and pay for itself. |

Was just thinking that it won't likely come over the border into the US. They often ask for papers, and Vans always get a bit more of a once over, it seems. So, odds are it will be up there. I'd be calling some pawn shop with a list of your gear that might be useless and perceived as valuable though. Sleeping bags and stuff they'll keep. But if you have something like a bright orange Satellite phone, or a new Garmin GPS, or an unusual colored pair of matching backpacks.
With a short list the shops would be willing to jot down like that, you might get a call and know which way the van went. _________________ 1987 2WD Wolfsburg Vanagon Weekender "Mango", two fully locked 80 Series LandCruisers. 2017 Subaru Outback boxer. 1990 Audi 90 Quattro 20V with rear locking differential, 1990 burgundy parts Vanagon. 1984 Porsche 944, 1988 Toyota Supra 5 speed targa, 2002 BMW 325iX, 1982 Toyota Sunrader |

I like the idea of a list of items to pawn shops..I"ll pass it along..thanks Doug.
I also don't think the border is likely. With all the cameras they have there now it would not be easy to pull off.
That van does stand out, even repainted..too recognizable..
We are leaning for some idiots on a joy ride or bums looking to hide it in the woods for the rest of ski season..instant ski shack..
Crossed fingers, prayers, voodoo lets try it all ! |

Don't be so sure about not crossing the border. I bought a syncro in Canada and drove it right across the border with no license plates or anything. Sorry to hear this and I would spot a van that rad a mile away so eyes are peeled. _________________ '88 SCA High/Pop-top Syncro camper

I'll try to get more pics. It has GoWesty bumpers front and rear. Gary Lee spare tire rack driver's side on rear,
and big round smoked Hella fogs on the front. |
