That's one of the prettiest Syncros I've seen. What a tragedy.
One simple thing I've been doing is keeping my spare cell phone hidden in the car. Not very sophisticated, but it's easy to track using Device Manager, and if you already have a spare phone, it doesn't cost anything. |

Makes you wonder what "they" were thinking. I mean you can't hide that and it is clearly visible, limited access routes in that geographical area. _________________ '09 2.5L Jetta 5 cylinder, 5 spd, super turbo, see thread in H2O Cooled Jetta, etc...

Another Calgary member here. Spreading the word around. Also on some other forums now for western Canada. I met the owner of this van and bought some parts. Very helpful guy and I hope it is found.

Will keep lookout here in the Kootenays. Banff is not far.
That van will stick out with the SCA top. Hopefully it won't be stripped. |
That's where I'd be looking for this van. East and West Kootenays.
Perhaps taken by some ski bums for one last adventure. The work Visa is probably expired and the Syncro will likely show up in Vancouver - the point of extradition back home.
I'm only 13 km from Banff Park - the east end of Lake Minnewanka. Unlikely it will show up here - we only get stolen, thrashed and torched 4x4's from Calgary out this way. |

Yup ! Another stolen van is recovered !
Am I the only one who ever had one of these vans stolen that WASN'T found ?!?!
My friend Simon is trying to locate his van with the iPhone tracker App. It keeps saying the phone is off
or is out of cell range. All of a sudden yesterday late afternoon signal is as clear as can be..the phone is somewhere in Banff.
Within an hour he gets a call from the cops " your van is in the parking lot where you left it !!!!!
Except there is an extra 10 miles on the odo and it was reported seen about 5 miles away sooooooo....mystery.....
I have a 16" single cab and a Joker that can both be started with the same key from an old parts van I once had.
My guess is some punk with an older Jetta gave it a try and went for a drive...
I'm getting too old for this kind of shit ! I'm putting a dozen hidden switches in mine !!!
Lots of thanks again for all the kind words and support. |

the key thing is REAL by the way.
Last year I bought a European spec single cab diesel with locked treasurechest doors. (the last owner had it for 3 years and he did not get a key from the PO)
He never did anything about it before he sold it to me, I got it home and started trying keys from the others and the second one I tried got them open easily just as it was the key that came with it and continues to work!
BTW nothing good in the storage anyway but at least I have a key now! |

On the way to skiing Tuesday in Banff, saw a hightop going toward Calgary. Said to my buddies I bet that baby is really blowing around as real windy and know my syncro tintop is a hand full when windy. Don't remember the color but suspect it was your friend after retrieving his rig. |

Good to hear that it was a simple recovery and intact.
Nothing worse that someone taking something you worked hard to get. |
