Hello all
I have been working on my bus with mild interest.
Did:
Diesel starter - great improvement
Butty bit accelerator - holy fudge it's nice
Shift bushings
Kyb all around
Got all adjusted for diff stuff
Steel brake lines
It's basically ready to roll but I need to adjust the brakes. Im giving up on that
And taking it to a brake shop to get it properly adjusted. Blah
Now that the accelerator cable is properly adjusted and the buttys is in... DEAR LORD THIS THING IS FAST!!! Like scary scary fast. Can't imagine how fast skills Is with a built franken. Can't wait to start racing it lol.
When I did the bushings for the shifter, it worked nice, but now the thing won't go into reverse. Anyone got a tip? A search for "can't reverse" brought up 3k results ha _________________ 1977 Champagne Transporter Custom Camper.

Might be time for clutch adjustment.
If the shift coupler is good. Adjust the shifter stop plate.

I'm in Austin... so glad I found this while researching a Subaru conversion. Still have the bus? I haven't been to any local gatherings, but would love to see you bus in person.
I bought 'rebuilt' Type IV engine, but I've decided I want to go straight to an EJ. I'm on the lookout for a Subaru donor car. _________________ 1972 Bay 1.7L w/ single progressive carb :-/ |

Anyone know of anyone who makes an overland style bumper that includes a spare tire mount for the rear? Dont really want to mess up my front with one and need a full size spare. Thanks! _________________ 1977 Champagne Transporter Custom Camper.

That is something I've thought about lots of times but haven't really gotten anywhere with besides thought experiments about how I might mount such a thing.
There are several Vanagon options so perhaps you could find some inspiration over in Vanagon land. _________________ Dave Cook

FWIW, I think their mount broke & they lost the spare somewhere in their travels, but they were travelling lots of rough roads. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.

I know that this is an old post but Passat wheels have a ball seat, conical seat lugs are incorrect & may cause issues. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.
