running a 205k on my '66 beetle. I want to add a couple of shims and a fiber washer to the bottom of the shaft but can't figure out how to strip it down enough to fit them. Help anyone?

Mark both the drive shaft and drive gear, so when you put them back together they are the same way.

Remove the spring like retainer around the drive gear and knock out the pin.

Where did you find the fiber washers and shims for the 205K?

After you mark it . Take the wire retainer off . There's a pin that goes through the drive that has to be knocked out. I set it in a vice and knock it out with a hammer and a steel punch. It can be stubborn to get out too.Easier to get back in though. If you're just adding to the bottom that's all the further you have to go.
I've seen the bosch kits for sale on ebay for $33 shipped. You might look at Jegs or Summit if you only need a few . Or Glenn. His website is a world of info on how to disassemble.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I am attaching a diagram of a distributor. Found it in a German shop manual. So I'm having a tough time getting that pin (#16) out....I got maybe 1/4 of it sticking out but I need to get a smaller punch...

The correct sized punch and a bfh are essential. Don't be afraid to smack it good and hard. If its partially removed it will come out.

If it doesn't come out, get a bigger hammer.

Thanks guys - needed the encouragement to hit the damn thing harder - finally got that pin out, added the shims, cleaned and lubed everything and reassembled. Held my breath as I turned the key and it started right up! Readjusted timing and it's running great! In the words of Hannibal from the "A team": "I just love it when a plan comes together!"
