So I'm going to be driving my ghia more and more, and it's got the old beaded fuel line - maybe on there since 73? So I need to get that changed! What do you guys recommend using? Jbugs sells the braided 5x2.5 - but it says nothing about ethanol, which I will inevitably be using. I like the braided line, for looks at least, but I dont mind using rubber.

So what do you guys suggest? Sizes, type, where to buy?

Braided German line has worked well for me. It has a service life like any other rubber component that is exposed to fuel. I like to replace mine every 2-3 years.

I'm more like 5-7 years.

I've cut it open after 7 years and still looks like new.

I just got some German braided line, its green Very Happy . I got it to replace 15 yr old lines on a 72 super beetle that probably got less than 1000 miles in that time. The old braided line was still pliable and in good condition, go figure.

Cool so German braid is good to go, I certainly won't remind mind replacing them.

With that link you posted John - it brings me to my other questions:

- Where? Jbugs says they carry German aswell, and perhaps My autoparts store could even order some?

- What size? the link says 7mm ID and Others say 5mm ID, so what sizes will I need in order to replace all soft lines ( front, to back ) in a 73, 1600 DP ?

How many feet do you typically need to replace the hose front to back on a ghia?

You need a few inches for under fuel tank, need a few inches over trans to metal line coming into engine room. A few more inches from metal fuel line to fuel pump, from fuel pump to carb. Match up with your current set up, they are all slightly different but...3ft and you will have spare. Put a filter over trans and you will need 3 inches less Very Happy
If dual carbs you should double the order.

I was going to order 9 feet ( 2 cars ) and the shipping was over 20 bucks ! No thanks, I'll pick it up locally ...

I ship 1000's of packages a year in my business via FedEx and UPS, and I am often amazed at what some of these companies charge for shipping.

Green is breather hose and not fuel line.

Also you're playing with fire (literally) not having hose clamps.

How Did you get the shipping price calculated? I guess I'll have to bite the Bullet, hopefully its not too bad. My autoparts store said the couldn't order it.

I dont think its vent line Glenn. I got the end of the roll, said fuel line on it. Vent line is 3mm or 4mm i think.
If you knew how much i had to spit and push to get the lines on...
while testing I pulled the brass inlet off the carb, its very tight.

All very fine guys, since I have the hose, but where should I put the fuel filter? And how to install it?

It's not going in the engine compartment, that's for sure. If anything, all those burning aircooleds on last week's photo album reminded me every day to do something about it.

Popular place is above the transmission - mines in a similar spot.

Also under under the gas tank works just as good, I think I'll put a valve before mine to make replacing it easier?

Last summer I picked up a few of these all metal fuel filters. I like the idea of using metal when the fuel filter is located under the car.
