I see a lot of my off road baja bug friends have changed to power assisted rack & pinion (electric), has anyone put a rack and pinion on their Thing?

Not on my Thing but plenty of off-road cars. I will say this, the electric assist units are JUNK. It might work well on the street or at low speeds off-road, but anything over 20 mph was down right dangerous.
A stock beamed Thing with less than 31" tires and its not a race car, I can't see the need for a rack. If you do decide to go that route, the Saco center mounted unit is nice. Just be careful mounting it correctly to avoid any bumpsteer. |
