You have probably checked, but could it be a slightly sticky driver's side brake caliper? I had a squeak last year and that was the cause.

Start spraying individual parts with silicone spray, one at a time. This will help you isolate the problem.
Good Luck

I sprayed Lithium Grease on the two places where the driver's shocks attach to the suspension amd squeak is gone.

I think the lower mount is the culprit as it is a more complex joint.

Wonder if a bushing can be replaced or not.

Thanks for everybody's help.

Did you adhere to the recommendations in the big green book when installing them?, they have to be tightened on the bottom first in a tilted back position IIRC.

I trusted a shop that turned out to only get 80% of jobs correct because they're dumb, sloppy, or apathetic despite being an established place well known by the VW community.

I'll look in my Bentley on Monday...thanks for the tip.

Good point Busdaddy.
Just an fyi. This is done to adjust the bushing to its rest position. This position would be with the vehicle on its wheels and at rest.
Note, it is best to snug suspension bushing fasteners first. Lower the vehicle on its wheels and then torque the fasteners. If this is not possible, snug fastener, jack up the wheel to load the suspension (making sure vehicle is secure on jack stands) and toque the fasteners.

Hope it helps

You might want to clean the Lithium grease off. I have seen some shock bushings swell from having oil on them. So all are not formulated to be safe for petroleum products.

Wonder if a bushing can be replaced or not.
They can. But not necessary. I would say, have the shop clean them and install them correctly.

This is the plan. Now that I know where the noise originates. I'm still working on restoring my horn which hasn't worked for 14 years so I'm adding it to the list.

It's amazing how one tiny little area can make your Bus sound like Wild West whore house beds after cowboy payday!

I put the horn next to my ear and I could hear the ocean.
When I hooked up the battery I couldn't hear anything for three days.

Could you repeat that?

Pink Floyd had to be listened to loud and was the quintessential music when shopping for speakers.

I was told there was a rubber grommet I needed.

Maybe I should get a locomotive horn. They have their own button I could put under my horn button and then people would REALLY get out of my way!

PostPosted: Sun Apr 22, 2018 7:53 pm    Post subject: Squeak is gone! Reply with quote

I had an incredibly annoying squeak coming from under the front cab for over a year. It got worse on bumpy roads, so I assumed it was related to the suspension.

So I did a Samba search using just the keyword "Squeak" and checking the "Title only" box, and VOILA!... this answer presented itself:

Thanks for everybody's help.

It worked! I drove 20 miles afterward, and the squeak was completely gone!
However, now that it's quiet in the cab, I notice the smaller rattles and squeaks, but I'll address them one at a time.
It's just GREAT to drive Chloe without the constant squeaking.
Thanks Chabanais! Smile
