Has anyone besides me thought of doing this?! Not for during driving obviously but for during camping. One of those portable suitcase style ones maybe. I keep thinking about it...kinda funny. Maybe cause VW buses AND turntables are both so "retro cool" these days! I've been playing lots of records at home lately too which is the other reason - and absolutely loving it. Seems like a fun combo! Especially for a music-themed bus! _________________ 1970, Riviera, 1600 cc type I [single port] |

I am amazed by that technology! Dang.
The only thing I'd be concerned with having a record player for camping would heat damage to the records. I guess it all depends on how you would store them. Somebody on here has a record player in their camper, but I don't recall the user right now. _________________ -Tony

I have vinyl, but not a portable. Just a solid-state Hi-Fi. A portable is cool, but it's more weight to drag around in your already underpowered bus. What the hell, so what? You would want to keep in mind it needs to be fairly level, out of the sun and you'll need to be parked. It would surely skip and scratch your LP when you drive. Other than that, pop the top or slide back that roof and close the curtains, put the music on, fold out that Z bed and get down! |

I find, despite not much talent, that it's more fun to be a player than a spectator; a fellow traveler than a passenger. |

Decent turntables are very sensitive to vibration. I have trouble with mine in a house with wood floors, and every time someone walks around the house, the needle picks it up. This would be way worse in a camper, I would think.
That said, I LOVE those designs that others posted above. I never knew those existed! _________________ John

Another portable 45rpm player from the 50's, record loaded like a cd player into slot on side.

I did, it's on the second shelf, and runs through my head unit in the dash:

^^^^^^^^ that is awesome! I didn’t know anything like that existed.
Those are not standard size records are they? Looks too big for 45s and too small for LPs, unless the unit is deceptively smaller than it looks. _________________ Lon

I sometimes bring along this 60-70s picknic player om trips and meetings. Have a collection of doublets that are in less good condition and a friend donated a stack of 45ers. You don't want to play your rarest records on this kind of player.
