Hey all. So for my 1955 Single cab build I thought I would go with vintage speed look and feel. My engine builder turned me on to the Riechert Duel carb set up. I'm no guru when it cones to this type of stuff and I'm excited to see it take shape but I'll post as much as I can along the way. The original heads were messaged to accomidated the kit.

Looks good! I've been contemplating getting this kit for my 36hp for ages! what is the quality of the kit like, is it wot buying for the money? How about ordering from them, any problems? I'd be getting it sans air filters though, as I have some mushroom filters for it and the airfilters they supply seem pretty pricey...

I would be interested in knowing more about this kit as well...does it come with the carbs?

Where do you order it from?

I'd forego the carbs if you want it to be an affordable exercize txoval.....as it becomes really expensive with them! I think it's 1000+ euros with the carbs and the filters and postage, even though the carbs are completely rebuilt and bench tested, so I'm sure you're getting what you're paying for in regards to quality and ease of installation. However, the price is getting a bit too close to an Okrasa kit from WW. Confused

So I'd go the linkage, manifolds and carb rebuild kits (comes with all the gaskets and jets to make it work properly), and source your own 28pci's and air cleaners. Well that's my plan anyway. Very Happy I think I was quoted 450 euros postage inclusive for the lot, minus the carbs and filters, but including the carb overhaul kits.

Thanks for the heads up, yeah I could buy carbs/filters separately

How did you contact them? What's the lead time?

Looks like you could throw a set of 30's on there...

Their contact is: [email protected]

They were really quick to respond to me, but have heard others complain that they never respond, I think bernd is 80 or something, so I guess that may be understandable. I am yet to order a set, but everything they quoted me was in stock, ready to ship.....if that helps

Thats exactly what I had considered, 30's is the biggest you can go without modifying the mounting surface of the manifold. I'm sure if your handy though, you could probably machine an adapter or something to accomodate some pbic's like the Okrasa kit has. There is a 40hp version that accomodates 34's, but the amount of machining required to get it to seat to a 36hp head seems pretty ridiculous, so would stick with the 36hp/30ps manifolds.

30's provided significantly more flow than 28's...more than enough for me.

I'd be happy just buying the manifolds...run a Gene Berg linkage.

If any German members have access let me know

The linkage is actually run off the manifold via the triangular brackets on each manifold, with the throttle bracket mounted in the middle, making use of 2 of the existing bolts and holes that hold the generator backing plate on, so no need to drill anything. If you wanted to run a Gene berg linkage, you would probably be better off buying these instead:

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1394096

He only has the manifolds, and doesn't have the og Rethwish linkage to go with it, as I asked him, but suggests using the exact Gene Berg linkage that you are referring to. Might be a cheaper option for you if you aren't fussed on the Reichert linkage....

I've talked to him in the past...I've started building my own manifolds, just need to get off my butt and finish them.

To the OP, sorry for hijacking your thread...post some progress

Hey guys no prob!! I know that when Joe ordered them it took a while from order to delivery (about 6-8 months). He only spoke to his wife as she understood Joes "German". He picked up the parts last week so not sure the progress. I know he had an issue securing main bearing bug was able to do so. As for cost.... Not cheep but the quality is with it!! I will post updates as soon as the become available.

Holy crap, 6-8months! Really? I figured the process would be a little slow, but had no idea it would be that delayed! I may have to reconsider the time frame for fitment if I do go ahead with these then....geeze!

Definitely keep us updated though, I'm eager to see how it all pans out with this kit, fitment quality and performance wise especially.

Nice build! Whats the torque and power benefits, worth the expense do you think?

I have not dyno'd the engine so can not provide quantitative data. All I can say is that the engine pulls very strongly on low revs, and is capable of running all day long at 100+ km/h. Most remarkable to me is that now I can drive all the time on 4th gear on the motorway whilst previously I had to shift sometimes to 3rd when going uphill

All in all, the €1,500 I have put on the engine + exhaust are well worth it

Yeah, all the dyno data numbers aren't much use without the practical driving experience! Its exactly what you said about the gearing and the added torque that you can feel that is exactly what I want to hear Very Happy I love the mushroom filters too, I have bought a few for my build! They look boss! Laughing

Very nice! Is it only the dual carbs and the exhaust or did you do any other upgrades? Is there a lot of clearance between the carbs and the rain try? How about the mileage you get? Sorry about all the questions Embarassed . I am considering a Riechert kit for my 1960 convertible.

Only the carbs and the exhaust. An 010 distributor would be a nice complement but so far I am running a standard BR8 distributor, and it works fine

MDKG wrote:

With the mushroom type air cleaners there are no clearance issues. With standard airfilters I am sure they would touch each other

MDKG wrote:

I am Spanish and here in Spain we measure the consumption the other way round Very Happy I have an average consumption of 7-8 liters every 100km which have no idea how to translate into miles per gallon. But this is probably 15-20% more than the consumption I had with a single carb

I absolutely recommend this combo: 1. For the looks; 2. For the sound and 3. for the performance..., but do not expect your neck to break back when accelerating like in a Porsche 993 Turbo S Very Happy

From
http://www.convert-me.com/en/convert/fuel/lp100kmfuel.html

7L/100km = 33.6 MPG
8L/100km = 29.4 MPG

Thanks Ruvwen! Sounds like a blast to drive! I met a guy here in The Netherlands with a similar set up but he also had a Porsche 356 cam. Time to start saving and get in touch with Riechert I guess Very Happy !

Actually we measure the consumption the same here in Holland so I totally understand what you mean and does not sound bad at all.

BTW impressive list of cars you got Shocked I searched your gallery but could not find any pictures showing your vert besides the enigine? Any pics?

Hey guys. Glad to see there's a place you can share thoughts on the kit. Life's got real busy and I've been limping along on the progress on my SC build/motor build. I'll post pics and updates as soon as I have them.
