It's like seeing a horrific accident or road kill. I don't understand why they paid no/little attention to design and came up with this disaster. However from my readings the Citroen had some great advancements in engineering of their fleet. Perhaps that is where all the work went? Form vs Function, Function vs Form. I guess in the long run I would lean toward reliability and good engineering but cringe every time I got into that car. However if I owned it and it was reliable I think eventually (many years later) I would see the beauty in this ugly duckling.

all the creases and the tormented shape of the ami were designed to keep the panels rigid, as when they developed the car citroen specified thinner gauge sheet metal. They were as usual strapped of cash but wanted a car with a larger body than the 2CV to go and compete upmarket but using the same platform. _________________ cars:

and the reverse angle rear window was to keep the sun off the rear passengers.
by coincidence I saw a 'new' ami for the first time today. it's very small, boxy and just as wierd as its forebear... _________________ "we're here on Earth to fart around" kurt vonnegut

I know that is the rule.
Tough to make the "off-topic" threads work unless you have a handy photo storage site, many of which have disappeared over the years. |

If you post "i know this is against the rules, but..." you can get a waiver sometimes. I think thats in the Forum rules somewhere. _________________ .ssS! |

It is an interesting contradiction to have an "off topic" section that cannot accommodate "off topic" content. But... where do you draw the line?
I have photos of a very unique car and would like to know what it is but I am not going to pay some photo site just for photos of one car. _________________ We had the stone age, the bronze age, the industrial age and now we are in the age of mass deception and mind control for corporate profit.
