It’s almost like the new Plum Crazy Purple.

Hopefully it looks ok in the sun. Like not being able to see the lines as this stuff cane from a cattle can.

if you really want flake, this is what I do.
base color
flake of whatever color and a flake cannon ( easy to build ) and a can of clear.
i used a princess auto cheap disposable gun on my last project with a quart of inexpensive sherwin williams 2 part clear from the local auto supply, way cheaper than buying rattle cans

spray clear wet a couple square feet, flake cannon the clear, move to the next dry spot. then once you're done you'll have to lay a couple coats of clear to bury the flake.

some video after laying the flake on the sidecar

Paint is done.
I don’t think it’s gonna win any beauty contests. But I am ok with the results.
I really like the color and how the flake turned out

I wonder if that clear coat will buff up a bit once it has cured well? It looks a wee bit flat ( well more like semi gloss), mind you the flat look is kind of "in" just now.

And once it's all dressed up it will look different too! Smile

No it won’t buff up. It’s a rubber type based removal paint. It’s shinnier now then it was. Can’t wait to get it back together and out in the natural light

Ok i need some of the knowledgeable guys help

its almost time to mate the body back to the chassis for the last time. i have heard many talk about you need to seal the body to the chassis.

Is that true? or does it really matter?
and if true what is the best recommendation?

Buy a roll of stock VW body gasket rubber. The stuff they used Beetles and Ghias. CIP1 carries it. Glue it to the pan with some Permatex Right Stuff urethane sealant, tape it down to hold it in place and let it set up, then bolt the body down. Don't glue the body down just put it on the bare rubber.

One rear rim done. I like how it has turned out. Now I wait for the parts to show up. Then rims and tires will be out on as well as the body for good

That is way to close on the rear rim. The tire is going to flex when taking corners and is going to rubbbbbbbbb. what is the offset on the rim ?

Not sure. Custom made I bought from a guy. I have some tires mounted on the rims. Gonna try them in a day or 2. Might have to get some spacers and longer nuts. 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Swap the axles!
1967 axles/tubes will give ya about an inch and a half more room right where ya need it!
'68 axles/tubes can also be used if you get some spacers for the axle nuts.
Do it now before ya get everything assembled!

if i changed the axle and tubes that requires removing them from the tranny correct. and 67 still has the wide 5 pattern correct

YES and YES . . .
As I mentioned, 1968 axle/tubes can also be used with your "wide-five" drums if you buy a pair of these . . . http://www2.cip1.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=C13%2D22%2D5281%2D7

Remove the transaxle and it will take a couple hours to swap the axles . . . MUCH, much better than super long studs with super thick wheel spacers!

so if i can find a set of 68 axles.
can changing the axles be done without removing the tranny? i know it would be easier out

second this spacer you mention it just goes between the nut and the drum allowing me to use all my existing backing plate and brake setup?
