I have a 1967 camper, and would love to get a full or 3/4 length pop top put on it, so I can sleep up top. These are pretty rare, but does anyone know where I can find something like that?
Thanks! |

Get a post-1967 Westie with large pop top you want to use. Cut off the entire roof a few inches below the rain gutter, and carefully cut/grind till the rain gutter is off the roof.
Cut off the roof of your bus just behind the roof reinforcement behind the front seat, at just above the rain gutter and grind down the rest to the gutter.
Figure out with lots of measurements how to cut/mate the two together and weld up. Enjoy!
The problem is with the later large pop top the roofs are double skinned reinforced to keep the roof from flexing from all the added weight. So not just cut a bigger hole situation.
If you already have a small pop-top, you could build a roof rack tent setup a lot easier and not hack up your bus.
If you do not have a small pop-top you can still use a roof top tent.
Or buy a Dormobile and sell your 67.

Depends on where you live. In the UK, the dormobile roof has an almost full length pop top. I have never seen one in the States, but I saw several in the UK.

not to be a buzz kill but typically a full length pop top would require the cutting of the roof member right behind the rear cargo door. When this was done at the factory they installed belly pans to compensate for the missing roof member. Something to think about before you cut a very big hole.
Best of luck |
