1970 type 2

Problem: Gauge stuck at 0/1. With Tank almost full.

Connections:
Gauge +12V, connected to +12volts.
Gauge G, connected to brown wire.

Measured +12V at +12V gauge connection.
Measured +4.5V at G connection.

Disconnected G wire measured 5 ohms from wire to GND.
Shorted G connection to GND, gauge at 1/1.

Reconnected G to brown wire, shorted at T1(also brown wire), gauge at 1/1.

How can gauge work, and have 5 ohms at G wire and gauge at 0/1 when connected?

Shorted G connection to GND, gauge at 1/1.

Gauge is good; sender is not.

Hi all, new to this since I got my son's 76 bus after his passing. The fuel gauge is buried at empty. Is there a way to test the gauge? I have the intsrument panel off. Not going to worry about the sending unit. If that is an issue I will just track mileage.

Sorry for your loss.

There is a wire connector in the right rear wheel well. Ground that terminal and the gauge should read full with the key on.

19/20 it's the sender. The friction eventually rubs through the wrapped resistance wires, hopefully you may find a pre-cut access hole to swap the sending unit out.

Unfortunately, no access hole. Good thing I am good with math.

You have options. Check the spacing of the ribs on your floor... there are at least two incompatible spacings. You can install these with the tank in place. Most important to get the right spacing, and to locate the proper center of the sender before you cut.
