|
|
I'm looking to buy a space saver wheel in case of emergency.
Is there a reason I can't fit a smaller overall diameter wheel (including tyre) ?
I've seen it suggested that it can cause transmission damage, but surely the differential would allow this to work with no problems?
The only issues I can think of would be if it were fitted to a vehicle with traction control or ABS. I know the van wouldn't be level, but I'm hoping to use this only to limp along as far as the nearest garage.
I'm aware of the load rating issue too, but I only have a camper interior so I'd have thought I could compromise a little on what VW specced for OE as that must have been allowing for a fully laden van?
Am I missing something? Thanks for any help as usual

your spider gears will explode (basically) due to the difference in rolling diameter. they are really used to get you off the road.
but...if you blow a rear tire, rotate it to the front. either way, it would drive like shit and again, it's really to get you to safety

Thanks for the correction. I used to be a nice guy, then I ruined it by exposing myself to the public. |
