Just bought a 73 convertible The voltage keeps increasing with RPM to 16.5 volts. The generator tested good. I have a new voltage regulator. I installed a new voltage regulator Saturday; everything checked out good. Went on a short drive today and noticed the GEN light was coming on at low RMPs. So I got out the voltmeter and found the high voltage problem. Any suggestions on what the problem may be?

Welcome!

I'd start with a continuity test on all the wires between the generator and regulator, often a weak ground causes something similar to your issues, if the reg can't sense voltage how does it know when to stop charging?

The voltage regulator has a good ground, Looks like the gen is grounded by the gen strap. Should the be a ground wire between the voltage regulator smd gen?

There should be a brown wire in the regulator harness, check it for good continuity to ground.
