true on the BP and empi thing, but im sure that cip is selling "old stock" BP stuff. and i was under the impression that for now BP and empi product lines will be seperate, so for now BP exhaust system should be fine. and i have used the empi version of the same in the past and no complaints there either.
VS stuff is nice - but costly, not worth it for me on an otherwise stock style motor. build up a nice performance engine with all the good stuff and yeah for sure VS is a good choice to consider. _________________ 67 bug x3

No...stock 1600... Just wanting a more throatier sound... |
then the hide-away header muffler or even a standard header and single quiet pack would be perfect for your motor. both these exhaust systems free up horsepower (just a few mind you) and allow the engine to breath a bit easier, and they have a throatier sound over stock mufflers. In my opinion they are better performance wise then just about any aftermarket exhausts that exit through the stock pea shooter holes - with the vintage speed offering being an exception, but the cost is to high in my opinion for a simple bolt on power adder to an otherwise stock motor. _________________ 67 bug x3

ill fitting, ugly and doesn't add anything performance wise, and probably hurts performance over a nice stock exhaust system....sorry i don't recommend it. _________________ 67 bug x3

I appreciate your honesty...that's why I'm asking here for input and suggestions...
Also considering a mondo phat boy type of exhaust as well...found a few youtube videos, but the sound quality sucks... |
the fat boy type would be better then that 4 tip, but the problem with the fat boy is they are technically too big for an otherwise stock motor. but they still have performance benefits, just you might notice a slight lack of low end performance running a large muffler like the fat boy styles. _________________ 67 bug x3

If you are just after a different sound, how about stainless steel flared peashooters? A vendor on Samba sells them. A little throatier sound with all the benefits of a stock muffler. I am thinking of using them on my 1776 in my 71 bug. |

I want those too. They also sell them with chrome tips for $209 I think. They are made by bugpack, who is now owned by empi. They seem like they are fairly open, but they say they have mufflers. I bet it's loud, but mr stinger loud, and have an okay amount of back pressure. Anyone have street tubes? How do they look and sound? |

I bought one of these for my '70:
http://vwparts.aircooled.net/Tri-Mil-Hotdog-Muffler-VW-Beetle-and-Ghia-p/tri-mil-hotdog.htm
Got mine ceramic coated. Cost around $160 plus shipping.
It really is a quality looking header muffler.
Haven't run it yet, but I found some videos of it online, and it sounds great and fits nicely through the original pea shooter cutouts.
Although my car is not going to be setting low in the rear, I can see that people with lowered Beetles could use this with no clearance issues, either.
Not sure exactly what performance gains can be had by installing it, but John at AC.net highly recommends it, so it must be worthwhile.. _________________ ~ No matter where you go......there you are ~

That tri-mil one above is what i have, and i love it!
It gives off a great sound, that people don't expect to be coming from a bug. and your Revs will actually sound a little bit more like a real rev xD
