Hey guys, my early Bentley is terrible at giving torque specs. Does anyone know the pinch bolt torque for the link pin pinch bolts?

Thanks!

Many times I have to go to a later Bentley for bolt torques..... Rolling Eyes

I didn't look it up but I bet it's in one of these books
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/manuals/withoutguesswork.php

Edit: Weird, I don't see it in there for Bug, only Bus, which are 29-32 ft. lbs for M10. Are they M10? It's probably the same.

Hello Bruce. Per the, yellow, VW Without Guesswork, 1960-1970, "Clamping bolt link pin to torsion arm" 10mm bolt, the torque is 32lb/ft for a type 1 and 29-36 for the type 2.
Hope this helps, Bill.

Bolt sizes are determined by the diameter of the shank, not the size of the bolt head.

Sorry to dig up an old post but do you guys know if there are any washers, flat and/or lock, on the nut side of the pinch bolt? I'm putting my beam back together and noticed my old hardware consists of only a nut and bolt. Intuition is telling me to put a lock washer under the nut.

Yes, looks like they should have a split ring lock washer. #13 as shown in the obsolete parts catalog...

...and in the WW catalog as well...

You're welcome!

Sometimes us mechanics have to take a peek into the parts dept for answers to our questions Laughing Wink
