For alternator belt. Anybody have this installed on their syncro? I bought one years ago and just found it in my box of random parts. Would love to see a pic of it installed. |

The guards bolt onto/under the rear engine-mount nuts. One on either side of the crank-pulley.
The pass-side guard protects the belt running off the crank pulley.
The drivers-side one protects the belt running to the Water Pump.
Really tight space to work in. I was able to fit them up with a 1/4" drive socket set.
As I recall, they only fit in one-way. Not possible to install on the wrong side. Once attacked they can be fine-tuned so as not to rub on either pulley. I used pliers and a screwdriver to bend them to fit, once installed.
Great additions IMHO..
No more shredded alternator belts!

That looks like a good idea if your going to be going down dirt roads and gravel type situations. |

Thanks van shrugs! Those pics are perfect. Pretty tight to get at for sure but doable. Wish I would have done this when I had my engine out a couple of months ago. Now I need to find the water pump belt guard.
I drive on tons of gravel back roads and have shredded at least one belt in the past. Fortunately the belt stayed in tact until i was home and I only noticed it during routine visual inspection. It was pretty frayed around the edges and for an almost new belt I presumed it was from gravel. Losing a belt in the backwoods and not knowing it let go could be disastrous quickly |

I have a few sets brand new and will offer them up for someone to make more..if needed.
Edit:
They are not for sale, just reproduction and I want the originals back. |

Call VC in a few weeks. I asked them order some after a power steering belt got shredded on my son's syncro. |

Driver side bracket mounts to the inner and outer motor mounts.
Installed it protects the water pump belt and the sending unit wire.

Passenger side bracket doesn't mount to the motor mounts. It mounts to the alternator lower pivot bolt and the coolant flange upper nut the red arrows shows them.
Installed it protects the power steering belt in a few places

Where did you get the passenger side? Yours is different than the one discussed at beginning of this thread. Nice pics btw! |

I screwed up the name of sides on the pictures, it has been fixed now.
This is for the driver's side. Flip it upside down and the circular hole mounts to the engine mount closest to the crank pulley.

Yeah me either. I paid double that for the water pump belt protector, and to top it off i just placed on order for a propex heater from VC yesterday, could have added this on |

Reviving an old thread here sorry. Does anyone know if these are still available anywhere? It looks like Van Cafe is out of stock and I don't see them on any of the other typical vendor sites or classifieds.
I recently lost the water pump/alternator belt because of a rock, which in turn took the other belts and dipstick with it. I didn't realize these guards existed until finding this thread. |

I'm still waiting for some kind soul to post a picture of the underside of their Syncro [engine end] so I can see what it looks like with all the skid plates fitted –as mine came without them.
Some kind soul did PM me the blueprints for them all, when I asked last time. But no-one's provided me with a nice real world photo to show me what I'm missing.
