I want to come to Maine with my Doka, Bride of Chuey at my side and two canoes on top and bicycles inside, behind the seats. I would go to the Dover/Foxcraft area and visit Jerry Stelmok at his canoe shop, Island Falls Canoes. That's my dream.

Cool Chuey! My dream is to drive my van to Cali!
My buddy was in Oceanside 2 winters ago and he sent me a pic of what I think is your Doka! Cant find the pic right now but it was a Red Doka with a white utility box and canoes on top! He was doing a bike shop tour!
Coast to Coast T3 enthusiasm! Cheers to making it happen some day!
BTW I've lived in Maine for 25 years and never made it to Island Falls Canoes yet, but now its on my list! Thanks. _________________ '87 WBWE FAS Gen V |

This story was in the Boston Globe today. It is about a retired columnist who rented a Westfalia in Maine and drove it up the coast.
This loosely fits your inquiry And it is a great read |

And my favorite line: "Afterward, we run into yet another Westfalia that looks like ours but is owned by a retired couple from South Carolina. The husband is rather put out when I prove unable to talk replacement motors and structural improvements." _________________ John - 86 Wolfsburg Westfalia "Weekender"

finding any vw north of bangor is rare considering that the dealer in bangor is the most north dealer in maine. i grew up in fort kent, never really saw vw's till i went to college in orono. and i'll second what was stated many times earlier, the winter/salt ruined them. that and cash for clunkers really pushed a bunch of them through the recyclers. |

Bumping an old thread to see if anyone DownEast is on here and if there are any current get togethers in the area. I just got back into an '86 tin top here on Mount Desert Island where I live with my family year round. I came to the Island in a '76 Westy that I lived in summers while working as a sea kayak guide. Met my wife in that van and here we are 2 kids and 27 years later. If you see this rig rolling around Acadia... say Hello!

May have been me you saw... I've been daily driving my van for the past month on MDI with occasional trips to Ellsworth. I may be over your way to surf the reversing falls in my kayak in the next few weeks. If so, I'll ping you. Let me know if you're coming this way and maybe we can meet up. |

I see at least two on my annual pilgrimage to MDI for research, but I'm in the EV weekender so I'm a distant cousin _________________ .ssS! |
