OK, I bought this car in 2010 as you see it in the pic. I have most all the parts and what may not be there I have kicking around somewhere. It has been stuck in storage, then my garage in Georgia, then to my garage in Pennsylvania. Pulled it out and washed it- now time to reassemble. It will be the recipient of all my best NOS/new parts. I actually made some progress today putting all the lights, trim, bumpers etc.. back on. Quick question- are the door handles all the same for this era of VW aircooled cars? I need new door handle seals as the ones I have are kind of brittle and have overspray on them. _________________ '74 412 wagon

SWEET! That is a 1974 2 dr with factory 4 speed correct?
Yes, the door handles are the same pretty much through the whole type 4 series. There were some differences in door lock rods inside....but the handles should be the same. 8 have plenty of those if you are in need.
Also.....take a look at my strut mod document. I will have the centerlink rebuild doc out shortly. Followed by the DIY delrin control arm bushing and better than stock replacement radius arm bushing doc (all doable for under $60). Followed by the idler arm bronze bushing and greasert document.....followed by the steering box rebuild doc and the subframe caster and camber adjustment install doc.
All the actual work is done....and photos done. I just have to build the docs and write the doc.
I should have the long awaited final solution for replaceable rebuildable ball joints ready for test install by the end of june. Ray |

Yeah Ray, I've been reading your advice for years from the STF to here since about '04 man, don't worry! This will be done with fully upgraded struts, idler arm, center link, adj. Camber/caster, double rear sways, etc... _________________ '74 412 wagon

I have had wagons and four doors with both auto...and added in by me standard trans. The two doors while not much different save for having two less doors......across the board with the stiffer body, excellent 4 speed gear set and the minor additions from the factory like blue series springs, heavy duty struts and rear sway bar stock.....handle and drive much better. Sweet cars with the upgrades.

You don't have to sell me, I was hooked a long time ago- haven't made a lot of progress with my many Type 4's but haven't given up!
Hey, fun factoid- I was looking around a while back and found a 412 coupe was about the same weight as an equivalent year 911! _________________ '74 412 wagon

I think I can clean up my handle seals a bit for something usable, but I'm still looking for a right rear tail light to body seal. PM me to discuss details. _________________ '74 412 wagon
