Thx Jay, but I am unclear on what that would tell me - also unclear on whether I can just pull that fuse. |
You can pull both fuses if you want to, for whatever reason. The 8A fuse (14 gauge wire) is for the display, faucet/pump, and fridge fan; the 16A (12 gauge wire) is for the fridge's 12V/110V operation.
If you want the display to show the aux battery voltage, you'll need to remove the 14 gauge wire from the relay in the aux battery box and connect it directly to the aux battery's + post. My '90 came to me wired this way; from the second owner onward, my display has shown the aux battery voltage. _________________ ~Kamz

No owners manual covers non-stock electrical modifications.
In stock configuration, the water pump and LED display should receive constant power from the starting battery via one of the bridged #87 terminals on the fridge relay under the driver's seat.
The LED display should be powered via the 8A fuse in the small black fuse block on the driver's side B pillar.
To power the water pump and LED display from the auxiliary battery, follow the wire from the 8A fuse in the small black fuse block back to the fridge relay.
Pull that wire off the relay and confirm that the LED display no longer has power. If that did the trick, connect the wire that you just pulled off the relay to the positive post of the auxiliary battery and you are good to go.
To prevent a headache for the next person who owns/works on your van, make a note of all modifications in your owners manual to cut down on troubleshooting time. _________________ Jay Brown

A good test of what it is reading now is to disconnect one battery, then you'll know! _________________ '69 Squareback RIP

You can wire it up for either one. With an auxiliary setup where most things (radio, lights, etc) are run off the aux it makes since to switch the LED to show aux battery status. The starter should not have much draw in this setup. _________________ 1967 L633 VW beetle (currently being restored...slowly)

When you install an auxiliary battery (mine uses the Blue Seas semiconductor "switch") does the LED for the battery on the stove panel still read the status of the starting battery?
Or does it read the status of the auxiliary battery?
- as usual, the Owner's Manual is not helpful |
