..that is the question.
I've had this car a little over one year. I have an opportunity to have all the paint and body work done. I will be suppling the topcoat materials, Ruby Red if I do paint it.
Just curious on what the general consensus is and the opinions of others. I would like to know what other people think. Paint or don't paint? Your vote is appreciated, and I thank all that reply in advance.

I'm leaning towards don't paint it... Unless, will it be a daily driver? Or sit outside? The rain might start rusting the sheet metal away where the pain has come off.... That'd be my only reason to paint it.
I love patina paint though... so few around! Anyone can roll in new, good looking, shiny paint. But only a select few can roll in OG red paint...
What I'm trying to say is...
I wish my car looked like that, because I'd definitely roll it how it is! _________________ "All around you people will be tiptoeing through life, just to arrive at death safely. But dear children, do not tiptoe. Run, hop, skip or dance, just don't tiptoe." |

I personally would leave it the way it is. I too have been toying with the idea of leaving mine OG, but after I took off the primer the PO put on the left side, I was left with more bare metal and some ripples in the left rear fender? I also have a hood that is in need of some serious dent removal, so my Bug may be too far gone for the OG look and have to settle for a repaint...

Thanks for you input!
I have a friend with a '58 that looks similar. It has body issues too. He has found some rattle can paint that kind of matches and is using it to respray the door and decklid. It's an art to match but with some trial and error it can be pulled off. Look for us at Solvang later this year. |

I would be curious to see how your friends 58 turns out with the rattle can? I will be at Solvang this year, will your friend be driving his 58? _________________ 1958 Agave Beetle (0\_!_/0)

Do not paint that car. Anyone can have shiny paint. The only way to get the look that your car has, is time. _________________ nothing |

Ill throw in my .02. I would for sure not clear over it. If it were mine, I would cruise it just the way it is for a while. The car as it sits has a lot of character, that cant be brought back once its been painted. _________________ WANTED: Henry Veale Santa Rosa plate frames

Clear Coat does not protect against future corrosion either, better off wiping it down with some type of penetrating oil like "Gibbs", it won't have a smell to it and it will penetrate up to one micron, which will keep water from penetrating the pores of the metal. You can always wipe off the Gibbs and prep it for painting if you choose to go that route some day? _________________ 1958 Agave Beetle (0\_!_/0)
