Hey everyone,
So I am having some serious issues on trying to get info admit a trans axle I got out of a sand rail and trying to put in my bay wind.
The entire ring and pinion sheared CLEAN off and I would like to just rebuild it because I don't have a big budget at all to spend 1500 on a rebuilt one.
Id # is 002.301.103 A
Any help would be greatly appreciated |

Welcome.
That number is for the casting of the case, you are looking for a flat area with stamped in numbers/letters to ID it, usually on the side between the drain plugs.
A trans that's been blown up in a sand rail is a core IMO, not worth the time to try and fix without serious professional help. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

I agree. cut your losses and buy a used one that can be confirmed good. I bet there is very little useable inside that transmission.
if you can't swing the $$ for one just save up _________________

Thanks a lot guys. I appreciate the replys a lot.
Any idea what kind I should go with? Is there an automatic optio. That won't take much fab work that mounts to the original irs?
And where I would find one? |

geez. I spent close to $4500 rebuilding an 091 to factory spec last year and you are complaining about $1500? It hurts my ears because it is like hearing a 16 year old say "and now after I got my car I have to buy gasoline, oil changes, and insurance? That is really screwed man. Life should be easier." _________________ "Most people don't know what they're doing, and a lot of them are really good at it." - George Carlin |

Wrong again Mike. I personally re-manufactured it, and replaced all worn parts while doing it. All bearings are original and not Chinese copies. Most of the rebuilt trans sold are not as good as when new - they are rebuilt to make your budget happy - not re-manufactured to factory specs. This one is like new. If you want a trans re-manufactured to factory specs you will spend very close to $5,000 USD. That is a fact of life. That does not include the cost of tools. As I recall the factory tool set is almost that cost by itself. _________________ "Most people don't know what they're doing, and a lot of them are really good at it." - George Carlin |

Ok guys I finally cleaned it up and found the stamped numbers. Can anyone tell me year make and model of this thing? And what size ratio the ring and pinion is?

what year bus? 002 was a common trans.
call Benco....I have been punishing one of his units with lots and lots of power running thru it for over 3K miles. I am happy with it
your run of the mill used box will be in the 3-500 range. _________________

post a picture. it's probably a run of the mill 002....it's nothing special. I have a barn with about 20 of them stacked like wood....they are quite available. from your description, your trans is junk...perhaps the case is useable, but that's probably it. if the R+P are trashed (as you said) there is literally NO value in it.....the money is in that R+P
I hate to sound like a dick or do I? but if you don't have the coin for this bus, STOP, just STOP....you will keep throwing what little you have in these "good deals" and just get burnt. this is decades of experience speaking here...there is NOTHING cheap about owning one of these, trust me _________________
