on my way back from SyncroFest I stopped on the side of the south bound I-5 to help these guys - I left them there after patching with rescue tape a small coolant hose and gave them some water...
never hear from them again.. do they have other problems? do they made it home?
this is the only pic I have.. they were at SyncroFest too...do you know who are they?
thanks

Hmm. I remember blowing by you... but not them. Interesting. Yeah Brian has a Vanistan engine in his ride. The guy in the blue shirt helped me at Syncrofest. He's from San Diego as well, but I had never met him before. Nice guy but his name escapes me right now. _________________ Tim Potts

btw... you remember me because I was doing 65 with my plain jane 2.1 WBX and you're doing 95 with your 1.8T...
you missed the other guys because they were doing 0 mph
I told my co-pilot (wife) "hmm...this guy has the engine I want.." - she told me we don't have the $$ for it..

Aria, that's right. I hope he comes around the San Diego meet sometime.
I was running behind Joey in his Land Rover when we passed you. I asked him to pace me because he has cruise control and I didn't want to drive too fast with my jb weld patch on the oil pan. But we wound up pulling over several times as a piece of window trim on his Land Rover kept popping loose. We finally took it completely off. I accused Joey of trying to give Vanagons a bad rep. I imagine everyone who saw us on the side of the road imagined that nice Land Rover pulled over to help the broken down old Vanagon. _________________ Tim Potts

Well it for sure was not me. I only have an awning on one side and I live within an hour of SF.
Don't get Brian going about his 10c engine.
Hey Joey take your Land Rover back to the guys who put a front glassninit and make them change the pillar clips. There are a total of 10 of them and they are $8.50 each , they are a stupid little clip like a door panel clip which should be about .45 each Max.
Tim ,just be glad it wasn't you with oil on the ground as you drove. Have you changed that pan yet or are you still tempting fate.

the crosswinds were pretty scary that day. 2 of the clips were not even installed because the base had broken. i decided to thicken the remaining clips using paper, and it seems to be holding.
btw - i set my cruise control at 80mph. and tim was right behind me, even up the grapevine! |

I got distracted as we were climbing towards the summit, then realized you were pulling away from me, so I hammered it, and hit 90 MPH as we passed the summit marker. Gotta love a turbo

Not yet. I have to change it in the coming weeks though. Definitely before we leave for Oklahoma at the end of June. _________________ Tim Potts

Glad some of that Vanagon ingenuity translates to the LR, or is that a prerequisite skill for owning a British car...
To qualify this post for on topic, definitely Brian and Aria. |

Update: I saw Brian this past Saturday. He said one of the oil cooler coolant lines had split, they patched it up and made it home okay. _________________ Tim Potts
