So, trying to figure out what is correct for my '67...
In a couple of other posts, of earlier cars, the seat base color has been listed as "Anthracite".
Did they change the color, and anybody know specifics?
The seat bases i took out of my '67 appear black.
These have been beaten, bashed, and faded for 47+ years, so they have a flat sheen, and are almost gray?
Closer..
I don't see colors very well.
My wife assures me they are black.
Would goold old L41 be correct for these?
Should a flattener be used, or were they gloss when new?
Plan on cutting off the air on the gun to get the splatter effect/texture;
Did this by accident the other day by forgetting to turn on the compressor for a paint session, and it (unfortunately) worked very well! _________________ Bus Motor Build

I recently sold some seats. They were both low backs, with the side release instead of the cable underneath
One was red with a grey base, and the knob was early style
The other was a black base and tan cover, newer style all black knob
I'll look for pics, but I would say that if you have the big black side knob, the base should be black. Not full gloss. _________________ Stop dead photo links! Post your photos to The Samba Gallery! |

Mine are in pretty good shape and out of a 68 square. They are black wth the same texture as yours and not gloss either. Pretty much identical to your pic. _________________ 1968 FI Squareback |

Would you guys say the sheen was semi-gloss, or flat?
Jason, are your round adjuster knobs shiny? _________________ Bus Motor Build

One of my seat bases had a crack in the corner just like your pic. I tac-welded it up and ground it down. I straightened the bases up and sent to them to get blasted. I asked my buddy to get a hold of me as I wanted to see them cleaned up before going further. I was on the fence with paint or powder. I chose to go with powder coating in textured black satin. The texture or splatter is not as large or obvious but the texture is looks great.
