|
|
It's in non running condition and pretty much all original minus a swapped engine (it has a 2.0l Type 4 Engine) which was put into it 1978. It has been sitting since 1986.
Any who, since I'm new here and new to this bus, where would be a couple suggested websites I can get parts from? I live in South California, preferably places in San Diego area and San Fernando area.
Any idea where I can get the cabinet handles for the bus?

Nice score! It's very likely a '72 though. Cabinet handles are available through several vendors. Check out Bus Depot and maybe Cip1.com. Welcome to the bay forum. _________________ If you haven't bled on them, you haven't worked on them.

Welcome. Nice bus- that's a 72 and would have originally come with a 1.7 type 4. Lets see some more pics. I like bus depot for my parts but on the west coast you have a lot of options. _________________ '69 Westfalia Camper~Cassidy

It's a 72. Which I consider the finest year for the late bays. Stands on it's own from other years 73-79. _________________ 1972 Westy Hardtop/Type-4 2056cc

Hey guys, thanks for the replies. I have it at my uncles body shop who's going to lend a big hand with the body work that needs to be done and painting.

Apparently, the original owner had the Engine swapped for a 2.0L down here in North Hollywood, CA.
May you list a few west coast options? would appreciate it thanks!

Makes me feel glad I picked this one up. Drove out almost 8 hours to get her and 8 hours to bring her back + 4 hours to go to San Diego!

Welcome ! And nice to see another one year only owner here.
I have owned my 72 since it was 6 months old and never regretted keeping
it.
You will obviously be doing lots of repairs and since you live near one of the
best Bus mechanics in your area his screen name here is"" Aeromech''"
and He loves 72 busses too.
As for parts down there. you will have quite a few different vendors depending on what you need.
And as already been mentioned there are also others out of state.
Spend some time looking in the ad's here at the top right hand corner.
a lot of helpful people here will help you along your way. _________________ V.W.owner since 1967 |

The model year of 1972 buses would have begun production in August of 1971. That looks like a solid bus! Welcome to The Samba! 😀 _________________ OK Thang

Does he have a real name or is that not allowed in the forums? My uncle, has a "VW Guy" friend that he calls up when ever someone wants an engine rebuilt. The "VW Guy" comes in, and does all the engine/transmission (mechanical?) related labor, and my uncle will do everything else like interior and body work.
Saw some of the ads, looks like jbugs is on there so that's nice. My uncle and I are going to make a list of everything that bus needs to get it working... and I'll go from there to see where I want to do my shopping.
I want to keep the bus as original as possible..
*How can I get in contact with Aeromech to maybe check out my bus? How much does he charge if at all anything?

Congrats, looks like you found an intact 1 year only Queen. In image #5 however, the exhaust pipe does not appear to be a 72 part. Looks like a later model. Could have been changed to a later (but inferior) exhaust/heat system.
In 43 years anything could have happened.

Yes the exhaust has been modified with the engine. I believe it is the late style heating boxes and exhaust. _________________ 1972 Westfalia P30 hardtop Campmobile [On-going Restoration]

JK Campers has the handles in black and grey. I recently ordered from them for delivery in Canada and it was very reasonable and fast. _________________ 1974 Westfalia, automatic, dual-carb |

Alright guys, I've started buying parts for my VW after creating a list.
One thing I'm having trouble with is the fuel tank. I want to replace it with a new clean one.... I'm looking around and I cant seem to find much information on what fuel tank goes into a 72 Bus.
The best answer I could find was 211 201 075 H part # but I can see any sellers for this... will any fuel tank work?

Wow thanks. I see it, http://www.busdepot.com/211201075l
It says I need to use a late model sending link... that would be http://www.busdepot.com/211919051a
right?
I want to double check for safety. _________________ 1972 Westfalia P30 hardtop Campmobile [On-going Restoration]

The only limitation on those one year busses is that you could only drive it during 1972, kind of a rip off in my mind but on the other hand that is why they are all found in fields and such
Happy Independence Day Amigos!!!!! The goings on here are a sure sign of freedom!!!!!
I have a 73 and can drive it in any year... _________________ 73 Camper Tin Top/Type 4 1.8 engine, Single progressive EMPI carb, electronic ignition SVDA W/ Vacuum.
