Does anyone know if you can put Kool Patch over POR-15? I sandblasted some rust spots on my floor and was planning to coat with POR-15, then use the info from Bulley-hewitt site and coat again with the Kool Patch.

I'm not 100% here but I don't think you should have any problems with doing that. I was planning on doing the same thing to my 70 westy.

You can top coat POR-15 so I don't see why not.

You don't get the best finish putting regular paint over POR-15 due to the epoxy or whatever is in it so they make a product called Tie-coat that is designed as a primer- it's expensive too, see a pattern here?! If it's something that you are going to cover with goop like Koolpatch it won't matter.

Personally, when I did my interior, I cleaned up what surface rust I had and painted it with POR-15. I painted Koolpatch over the POR-15 on the walls. BIG NOTE HERE! I wouldn't paint the floor with Koolpatch- it gets tacky again when it gets hot and will stick to anything pushed against it. This is no big deal where it is covered by the wall panels, but you don't want the stuff on anything else as it doesn't wash out- ever! For my floor, I used the POR-15 as noted above, then put down roofing felt before adding the flooring.

I certainly hope so!

I have used "Chassis Black" POR15 on everything remoltely rusty on the underside and all new metal I welded in. I also used it on the interior wherever there was welded repairs (done either by the Butcher or myself). I read just last night on one of the newsgroups a sort of debate about the value of POR. I'll let you know in a few decades. I don't plan to do this again.

I digress (as usual). I have applied a liberal couple of coats of Kool Patch on both sides of my floor and see no reason not to do so.

I'm fortunate enough to live a little over an hour from Restomotive Labs and I've had nothing but pleasant experiences with them, telephonically and in person. I have asked a few stupid questions and they've always been great. Give them a call.

They do stress though that POR is not formulated as a final coat. The black, at least fades when exposed to sunlight for any period of time. Topcoat away. Also, you mention sandblasting. POR is at its best on rust and rough surfaces. It wan't adhere well to other paint or new metal.

I have to say, I like the way this stuff goes on with a brush. I get a smooth, glossy black and it goes a long way. Especially when you apply it in 35 degree weather Laughing
