@ StockNazi: Okay, thank you for your explanation. It might have been nice original paint. I know there is always much discussion about that topic but I personally prefer a good quality repainting.
@ AS350driver: Great! Best regards from a EC135 and former EC120 driver. |

Volker, it always amazes me how many aviation folks are attracted to air cooled Vw's. |

Does anybody know why they forgot to add weights and year of construction to my chassis plate?

I think your chassis plate is correct. my 6/63 15 window looks the same.
do you have the M Plate behind the passenger seat? That will give you the info. that you are looking for. Here is mine. Unfortunately I sold it a few years ago.
enjoy your bus. Looking forward to seeing it painted!

@ Dana: Thanks! Seems they didn`t add that information to the chassis plates in those months. I know when my bus was built, I just wondered why there is no date on the chassis plate.
Bus paint is finished, I will upload some pictures in one or two weeks. |

On the weekend I could bring the bus home.
My further steps:
- install the wires
- install the axles and the gearbox
- proceed with the cloth around the windows - should be installed before the window rubber, correct?

First - It looks great!
Yes on the headliner, it's wrapped around the window openings a little bit.

Just one more question concerning the headliner. I`ve been searching the net for some weeks now, but don`t find a solution. The headliner that came with the bus (but dismounted) is a white perforated one. I´m not sure if it`s the original headliner.
Having read some threads in here I guess the headliner should be iceblue. If I look at Everett`s 15 window bus, also turqoise, nearly the same production date, I see a cloth without perforation. What can I buy in order to stay as original als possible? |

Boy, that bus turned out beautiful.. Did you buy it locally in Germany or did it come back home from the USA? _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

Yes, it should be cloth.
It's very possible that the vinyl perforated one is a replacement headliner, maybe even done by the dealer for the owner. I have seen some other Deluxes, both 23-Window and 15-Windows that had replacement headliners that were the vinyl type.
Yes, I believe it should be Ice Blue.
Someone just started making Ice Blue headliners. Ad:

@ wcfvw69: Thanks, I´m glad to have chosen the original color - it`s just beautiful. To answer you question: Both! The bus spent it`s time 1963 til 2014 in the states and was reimported. In 2015 I could buy it here in Germany.
@ Everett: Thank you very much! So I guess I´ll go for that iceblue one if I can afford it. The well known dealers always write about mid `63 as a change in headliner style, VIN 1101163. I couldn`t find out differences on later models. Same with the door panel kits in phosphor/como green. For example WW offers them for early, mid and late `63 buses, but many dealers here in Europe just offer one of them, mostly the mid `63 version whereas my bus is a late `63. But what are the differences? Anybody any idea? |

I have never heard this before.
This VIN # is the middle of April. 1963
My brother's May, 1963 15-Window also had the original cloth headliner when he bought it.

The only thing I can think of is that the "long panel" for the interior, the one large panel that runs down the driver's side of the Bus with 2 arm rests, has a slightly different shape and length because of the change to inward-pointed engine vents. _________________ How to Post Photos

@ Everett: Thanks again, nice to have someone who owns a similar bus and can give information about the original condition. The change of the vents could be a reason for the different interior panels, good point! |
