I have an original spiral-spined "Keep Your Volkswagen Alive" Idiot manual that my grandpa found and gave to me. I'm not going to sell it but I was wondering what it is worth. _________________ Fahrvergnugen/ far-fair-gnu-ghen/ Description of a pleasurable sensation experienced when a car and it's driver are in mutual harmony; A unique driving experience; Pleasure; Satisfaction; A feeling experienced by Volkswagen drivers. |

It is in very good condition with only a few minor scuffs. |

Check the classifieds... they go for a few bucks to a few tens, depending on condition.
If it were a first edition, first printing (check the front matter), it may be worth more. |

I'd say 20-25 bucks for a very good spiral bound. |

Depends on which edition it is and condition. If it's from the mid '70s, and has the Type 3 and Type 4 disk brake and fuel injection stuff, it's not worth much. I'd probably give it to a friend with a VW who needs it. If it's for bug, bus and Ghia only, it has some collector appeal. _________________ We are striving for perfection, to make our cars run forever, if possible.

The closer yours is to the first edition 1969 December edition the more it's worth.

True, I dont want to high-jack the thread. I just thought it is interesting that the art was all modified. I cant find any information. Dont think too many Germans would have taken advise on VW's from an American Hippy!

The German edition is probably of interest to a German or a Muir completist who wants a copy of every edition ever printed. I've never met anyone with a collection like that, but there's probably one out there.
I have several early copies, including a first edition. (1,200 copies printed.) I keep one scrubby copy that I use. _________________ We are striving for perfection, to make our cars run forever, if possible.

My first edition says there were 2500 copies printed. Does yours say 1200? Which is earlier?
I have two third editions as well. |

I'm sorry. You're right on the 2,500. I was going from my shaky memory. _________________ We are striving for perfection, to make our cars run forever, if possible.

It's according to who may want to buy it. I own a 1974 bug and wanted a 1974 spiral-bound copy in good condition. On EBay, I won the one I wanted and paid $35.00 for it.
I also own a new version and the artwork by Peter Ashwanden had changed a lot. He also used his real name in the credits for the later versions. His wife told me that he didn't think the book would sell all that well in the beginning so he used the name Junipero Scopulorum as a joke.
Most of the spiral-bounds I saw on EBay we're going for about twenty bucks.
