Can I ask where you picked up your new canvas? I also need to get some seals for my pop top so any help would be appreciated. _________________ www.Beetle.ie Ireland's Volkswagen Stories Told! |

Thanks for the quick reply Dan and of course for the links. I really appreciate it as I couldn't find the canvas anywhere. _________________ www.Beetle.ie Ireland's Volkswagen Stories Told! |

I actually went through Country Homes Campers who put me in touch with the shop that makes the canvases for bus depot and others. The lady there let me get another color other than yellow or white.
For the seals I bought them on eBay and asked the seller for his riviera poptop seal package which included longer seals and additional seals for the unique shape of the riviera top vs. the westy top. _________________ 1974 Riviera - Subaru EJ22

Werksberg is a good guy, I've had nothing but good dealings with him. Had something go sideways once, but it was entirely (completely, totally) my fault because I dropped the ball, and nothing to do with any of his products. |

Great. Thanks for that. Do you happen to have the link for the eBay seller/ad? _________________ www.Beetle.ie Ireland's Volkswagen Stories Told! |

Werksberg is the seller's name: http://stores.ebay.com/werksberg
I didn't see a listing for any riviera kits but he makes them so I would just send him a question asking about the details. He is also here on the samba and has ads in the classifieds. _________________ 1974 Riviera - Subaru EJ22

A few updates:
Replaced battery tray and rear passenger corner:
Finished body work including a few skim costs of glaze over the metal sealant.
2 coats of high fill primer, lots of block sanding, cracked finger tips, erased finger prints.
Al's liner on the interior floor, color matched to what will be the body color of mouse grey.
Interior painted and fuel sender access hole cover made to match the corrugated floor.
Sewfine seat covers installed over Wolfsburg coconut coir pads and sand blasted and painted seat frames.

Haha thanks Tcash! Unfortunately I can't put anything on my hands while working because I would hate to introduce oils, silicone, or any other chemicals on top of the primer that might soak in and prevent good adhesion.
Luckily I am getting a break from sanding as I paint the inside and I have been using some good hand lotion to help with healing. _________________ 1974 Riviera - Subaru EJ22

Still making progress despite the lack of updates. Painted and then parked outside a few days later.
Rust proofing i am using. Comes with a sprayer nozzle.
Vent Windows and other glass being installed. New glass everywhere but the roll up cab windows. I have the just kampers sliders for all four back windows. Also doors have been installed with handles, mirrors, etc. slider has been rebuilt with new hardware and opens about half way on its own with just a press of the handle. It should open even better with some grease on the slider rail.
The wheels will be sandblasted and painted so ignore the rattle can teal blue/green that the PO thought was a good decision.
Dash has been painted and installed. All new wiring harness from Rebel wire has been run and is waiting for finishing up.
I had to spend about two days fixing the fiberglass top. Lots of hairline cracks that went into the gelcoat. I used a grinder and carefully removed material until I saw good fiber glass. Then I added resin and new fiber strands as need and body worked everything with duraglass and some other finer fillers before priming sanding and painting in pearl white.
Rocky Mountain Westy parts going on to the ej22. I ordered a full stainless exhaust setup, engine carrier, speed sensor, reversed coolant manifold, and a few other parts from them. I bought my reverse throttle body from Mick at Boxer swaps.
Not sure when I will have more updates. Hopefully soon. _________________ 1974 Riviera - Subaru EJ22

It has been a while since my last update. Since then I have moved to another city and taken a new job so progress has been slow and only on weekends.
I finished up adding the turn signals, antenna, side markers, and tail lights.
Here I am adding the pop top seals and the luggage rack.
And part of getting the pop top sorted out was adding the bed platform. This gave lots more rigidity to the camper top and stopped the top from wanting to lean or sway left or right.
Also I got the gas tank installed and the engine is mocked up on the engine carrier with the coolant line run to the belly. No radiator yet, still trying to decide on what make/model to run with.
Progress feels good. There is still so much to do but checking things off the list feels great. Getting closer everyday. _________________ 1974 Riviera - Subaru EJ22

Howdy all, here are a few updates. The engine bay has been painted and the whole underside of the vehicle has been sprayed with color matching Al's Liner. Drive train, suspension and other parts have been cleaned up and painted black. I installed the gas tank, all new vent hoses, tapped the gas tank for a return line, and I installed a new gas fill elbow.
Canton Radiator Overflow
Champion EC281 Radiator - 2 core aluminum with new inlets/outlets welded up.
Cooling components low profile high CFM puller fans and shroud.
Side profile showing how low the fans are hanging down. The radiator is flush with the frame rails.
HD sway bar and new Koni shocks.
ECM location.
Exhaust and view from the passenger side.
I installed the starter (Bosch Jetta TDI Starter) and used the Rocky Mountain Westy adapter. Hopefully I will get more done soon and it should be running in a couple weeks. Thanks for looking! _________________ 1974 Riviera - Subaru EJ22

Thanks! It has been a ton of research and work. I finally feel like I can see the light at the end of the tunnel on this whole project. _________________ 1974 Riviera - Subaru EJ22

I found in my testing that exhaust added 15* to the coolant temp.
the heat shield is a bad idea...the vibrations/weight of the muffler broke DiVO's t belt cover, and subsequently the pieces fell into his timing belt, making the belt jump _________________

Any idea or guess why it added 15*?

Did the heat shield break because he was traveling on super rough roads in Baja and further south though? _________________ 1974 Riviera - Subaru EJ22
