It's formulated for high altitude use, and has a low volatility behaviour that will make it run like crap on the street. _________________ I strive for perfection. Excellence will not be tolerated!

That sounds like something that someone who has never used it would say. Granted if you do not need that high of an octane number, it would be a total waste, and "could" allow your engine to run to cold. However, if you need that octane, it works great, and at a far cheaper cost then race gas. I don't run it in any of my VWs because premium is all that I need, but I have used it when it was quicker to dump in 5 gallons, than hit a gas station on the way to work. Did my car run any different, NOPE. However, that is all that I use in my dirt bikes and mini buggy. Of course, all of their motors are a little pumped up _________________ 69 road Bug 2110

glad we could be of service |
heck yeah.
i have ridden in cars running on avgas (good thing airplanes never have to run on the ground since it is only formulated for high altitude - how do they get into the air?!?!?). i have driven cars on E10 for years and years and over 400,000 miles. same injectors, same fuel pump, same fuel lines. i have friends that run E85 daily. how can we have so much conflicting information?
i truly don't understand... _________________ Dumber people are doing harder things everyday.

Well, gas aircraft engines actually run like crap on the ground...
Especially at idle and lower throttle settings.
Now, this is acceptable to some.
Congratulations. _________________ I strive for perfection. Excellence will not be tolerated!

I'll just throw this in there. here in my area of Utah; i use 88 octane Ethanol free gas. there are stations out there. Depending on where you are they could few and far between but this link may help you find them wherever you are.

I saw an immediate difference. 4-5 MPG better. well worth the .25 a gallon more here. |

Yes you can, but do you really need to. What are the specs of your engine? Size, cam, CR and carburation. If you do not need a high octane number, then why waste the money. Remember, octane does not give you horse power, it just give you the ability to make more (higher CR, more cam, and more ignition advance). _________________ 69 road Bug 2110

Yes I'll revive this thread per Everetts's urging. Ethanol is crap, its a political tool used to subsidize the corn industry.

so cant the bars subsidize the corn holers and industry at the same tyme? and it seems to me that a lot of aeroplanes have adjustable carbretters so they can leen them out or richen them up for the changes latitude's..oops altitudes...attitudes.... witch our bugs dont usualy have. so if you tune the av gas for your bug it should be fine...if you can tune it as in have the ability. just like racing fuel, it needs to be tuned for it.
As far as the ethanol free....I think they charge for it around hear. |
