Can anyone point me to a stick or technical forum on Samba that details what types of generators for what years, specifically 6V, for sedans.

Thank in advance, I searched but could not zero in.

ZENVW, or anyone, can you tell me how to identify the model and or year of a specific generator by looking at the stamping/coding?

The information here has a listing of the 6V and 12V generators for buses, but the part numbers are similar I think. At the very least, the progression from year to year.

Great! I have progressive refinements, i should have looked there. Sorry about that. Now i want to find out how to read the #s on the generators. I think the codes reveal date of manufacture dont they?

There is a small date code on the generator.

See this thread from the FAQ

Garbe Lahmeyer also had generators installed on VW starting mid 1955. If you can't find a Bosch part number it's a good sign that its a GL part. If you find a VW logo on it you can confirm GL manufacture.

when your are looking at a pile of them it's hard to tell a GL generator from a Bosch but they are out there.
