I noticed how short the bar appeared in the catalog. The widely available version now is much longer, IIRC. |

After a ton of searching, I found a few things:
Repopped stickers on eBay:
And scanned images of the catalog that was for sale in the link provided by Turbomicrowaves:
Link to EMPI catalogs: http://www.oldspeed.net/catalogue_empi.htm
The part number from the catalog matches the part number on the box that mine came in...and it seems to indicate that there's only one length since it states that it's for Type 1, 2, 3. |

That was a few years old, I searched The Samba and most were over $200. _________________ '68 Sunroof Squareback

I'm sure someone out there in the VW ether has an original EMPI catalog with price list. _________________ '68 Sunroof Squareback

This is the tag that was on the box that my NOS camber compensator came in. Note that it says "All Type 3" on the box. The box was opened but the camber compensator was real close to the length of the box and the tags were still on it, with the scanned instructions inside.
HCCW130 doesn't come back as anything useful via Google.
31-04875 also returns nothing useful.
A price list with part numbers would help solve the riddle. |

The version you have mounts to the frame horns, correct? |
Correct. But the bar that spans the axles should be the same design. |

I recently picked this Camber Compensator up at a swap meet. I hadn't even considered that different models would require different compensators, I just assumed they were all the same. It does have a patent number stamped on it that matches the EMPI versions, but doesn't have any other identifying marks on it. Also, it measures out to just under 37". |
I recently learned this myself when I brought my recently powder coated bar back to compare with the NOS unit I bought a few months ago. I never really thought that it would be shorter than the one I was restoring. |

Thanks for posting up the information. |
Th 31 inch one is probably for a short axle bug or ghia up thru 65. |
Yeah, that was my guess...looks like it'll be up for sale soon! |

I have an original here and the length of the bar is approximately 35.5" from eye to eye.

There are many differences. Split case trans uses a completely different center bracket (smaller) that will not work on a tunnel trans & vise versa. There were also atleast 4 different widths. Early Bus (1963 & older). Late Bus (1964-67). Short axle Bug/Ghia. Long axle Bug/Ghia. There was also a completely different center bracket for Type 3 in the later production runs. |
I don't know what lengths are for what vehicle in his list above. _________________ How to Post Photos

I have another question:
How long is the bar supposed to be?
My NOS camber compensator is rougly 31" long. The other one, which looked to be original, is closer to 34" long.
Did EMPI make different length compensator bars?
