Is the gas on a regulator? If so, what psi is it set to? The welds still look as though they are on the verge of blow through. Try adding a little more speed to the wire.

Should look more like this...

You should be able to bend the metal as if it were never two pieces.

Looks like progress. Maybe try one notch cooler on the dial. Get better (thicker) metal, it looks thin. No need to make it harder on yourself. Hold the trigger for
1...2..stop. You wont need to stitch, just tack and move at least 3,4 inches from the first tack. tack again. I always practice a few tacks before I attempt a repair just to get comfortable.

Increase your shielding gas.

Just found out I'm out of it... But I've had the same tank since January so it's expected. Gonna get more on Friday or Saturday. I'll do what you guys said to the dials. The gas is set to around 20 psi.

You can tell when there is no shielding gas just by looking - if the welds are dull and porous this is a sure sign

If you're getting holes in you're welds you need more wire. Increase wire feed a little. The arc is burning through faster than the wire can fill it.

Evil or Very Mad I used the same settings, same gauge steel, and all the same other things, but they look so drastically different!

Those top picture welds are beautiful. Is the metal on the car thinner?

The hole in the top piece is where I cut the patch from... Same gauge, same settings, same everything. If anything the car has thicker metal that I'm welding to.

Where are you clamping the ground cable? I would try and get it as close as your top picture was.

It's where the washer bottle usually sits. I'll try to get it closer tomorrow. I cant think where to put it since the front apron is curved.

Right above where the trunk lip is. Should be a very good location.

Alright, I'll try there. I'll have to grind some paint.

I have the same welder and just finished replacing the bottom 6-inches of the car. You just need a little practice on scrap.

Also, hold the nozzle with your free hand (wearing glove and resting against the car) to stabilize the torch and help put the wire exactly where you want it. Use your nozzle hand as a gauge to control the stickout and help avoid snail-like blobs.

For 22gauge like you're using, I'd set amp and wire feed knobs both at 3 and C with 1/4" stickout and make very small adjustments from there. Turning the knobs a full setting is far too big of an adjustment; just move it a little bit. An alternative to changing adjustments is to hold your nozzle closer/further from panel to get hotter/cooler welds.

Here's a pic of tacks on my channel.

Thanks for the tip man I'll try that. Your welds are what I wish mine looked like...

Always trim the wire after every spot weld too, and clean the surface your welding with a wire brush.
