Looks like it helped getting the ground closer to the area you were working.

Xzener, yes it did, but it doesn't help I have to use an extension cord. I trim the wire anyway, I get a little glob of wire on the end if I don't.

You don't have to mess with gas settings, it's more forgivable when it comes to material, if you are welding outside you don't have to worry about the wind blowing your shielding away. I know a lot of guys insist on gas, and you do get cleaner welds, but flux also has its advantages especially if you are having problems with using gas, I'd give it a try, I've used it for decades now with no problems, but to each his own.

I used flux for a year with bad results. My problem isn't the gas, but burning holes.

The little glob on your wire is a sign to turn the wire speed up. Remember to use one hand on the nozzle and keep a constant stickout.

When the wire speed is right, there will be no glob. If the speed is too high, you can feel the wire hitting the bottom of the puddle before it melts (it will push the nozzle away from the work surface).

Whole lot wrong going on there 67.( Remember, i am just a weekend hack welder.)
Forget the weld thru primer, its not helping you...no need to make learning harder.
You are welding all wrong. You do not hold the nose of the welder to the metal.
It should not touch or you will weld wire to your tip.
You need to hold the tip at an angle somewhere around 45 degrees or so to your metal.
While you wait for more experienced to weigh in...
Look up some utube videos to help your technique.

Okay, the nozzle is meant to be placed on the metal, it has a 1/4 inch lift on it for spot welding. I'll get rid of that primer.

ok, I had never seen anything like that. It does look like a stud welder type thing. Carry on.

You seem to be trying to spot weld either side of a butt weld, so I would forget the spot weld attachment and try and learn to MIG weld first. When I was getting crappy welds I found that I was holding the torch too close (not enough stick out) and not holding the trigger for long enough to give good penetration.

Also an amateur , but I never had a problem with weld-through primer. My guess is you are not getting a good ground with the clamp. It needs to be a clean bare metal connection in close proximity to the area you are working on.

It's a spot-welder, but it uses a wire feed? Why would spot-welds need filler?

(unless this is a vocabulary thing and we're confusing "spot weld" with "plug weld"?)

I'll second Mellow Yellow... go back to a normal MIG setup and learn to manipulate the current/power and speed/feed settings.

It's a mig welder with a nozzle used to make plug welds. My other nozzle disappeared Sad

That tip could be a nice little tool for you one day. At this point i would go get a normal mig tip for your set up and practice mig welding in the traditional way. Build your skills, good welding is something you can hear, you don't even have to see to know you are getting good penetration. If you hear bacon sizzling you are doing it right. If you hear inconsistent arcing something is wrong. 90% of panel replacement welding are tacks. Tack, wait, tack, wait. Move to the farthest side, tack, wait, tack, wait. Repeat. Or....sizzle, wait, sizzle, wait.

I think that's the plug-welding tip Eastwood sells. You have no use for that right now.

c21darrell is right - get a new proper tip. You want to watch the weld being formed.

The type of questions you're asking indicate you need to stop getting in a rush and do some reading and youtube.

Alright, I'll swing by a store and get a new welding tip. I have tried adjusting settings, but the suggested setting is E-4... 4 being the wire speed. Well when I set that wire speed. I hear the motor trying, but the wire doesn't come out. If I bump it up to five, it works fine. Maybe the machine is messed up.

When you put the spool of wire on the machine, you need to adjust the tension on the spool and also wheels that feed the wire to the gun. I have a Hobart 140...that's how mine works. Check your instructions, it sounds like you are a little out of adjustment. If your set up is bad you are making it harder than it needs to be. Find someone that lives near you that can weld. I think a 30 minute walk thru and weld session would really help you out.
Oh, quit blaming the machine, it only does what you set it up to do. Laughing
