I was getting something out of the glove box today and the knob pulled right out. I don't know if something is broken, or if it just came apart? Can anyone help with the procedure to get this back together?

Well, that is a stumper. First thing I'd check; is there a screw in the knob? May have to pull the button out to see.

Step 1: open wallet
Step 2: buy new one http://airheadparts.com/vintage-vw-parts/glove-box-door/glove-box-latch-non-locking-111857131-c

Sadly those latches are made from some pretty cheap materials, once they wear enough to come apart there's little else you can do but replace the assembly.
