It works fine. Any way to fix it? Replace stub with something else and not look hokey? Anybody done it? Something custom is what I am thinking.

Sure. That's plan B. Sometimes you just have to spend the money. I understand that. But I was hoping to see a cool alternative, but maybe there isn't one...

Lots of different columns can be grafted in which can put a lot of the controls on the column. Subaru has turned up a bit here is Oz as people are putting Subaru engines in and getting the column from the donor car.

A trip through a wrecking yard will give you lots of ideas.

My Dad fixed one of those. He used a small length of brass tubing. The inside was threaded for a small stud. A square nut was slid into the back of the opening after the broken end was filed flat and square. The section of tubing was painted to match the turn signal switch and the stud connected the tube to the nut. A small rubber cap found at the hardware store put a nice end on the tube handle.

Do you have the remaining lever? If so then just some epoxy putty in the groove and you are good to go. Its not a high stress area. Line up the pieces, stuff some epoxy putty in the channel, some filler after its cured and paint and you are good to go.

If not then just about anything you want can be grafted in there. Just use the epoxy putty and blend with filler.

Like I said...very low stress so just about anything will work.

I had one exactly like that. I got a short billet lever, I think it was an aftermarket GM tilt column lever(top below). It fit right into the broken section and I attached it with a screw and JB weld. Its probably stronger than the original

That looks pretty good. I like how the stalk is rotated up instead of straight out at 9:00 too. I will need clearance for my size 14 feet.

You need a good steering column support frame which allows you to securely clamp the column so it doesn't twist after its secured

Ok. I was planning on doing what the original builder did and use the stock clamp and gasket. The dash and hood are firmly bonded together and the whole hood dash is pretty sturdy. The column will be also be solidly mounted where it passes through the firewall. I like the Manx style column support but not sure it will fit under the Deserter dash. I will fabricate something when I get to that point if I am unhappy. I want it solid.

I've seen the column spin inside the rubber grommet. Maybe if you mock it up, see where the upper grommet is going to be on the column, then use some adhesive to bond the grommet to the column, it will be pretty solid
