Can I yank the hose coming off the top of the air filter to the EGR looking thing? The EGR itself is on a stalk that’s only screwed into the intake manifold. It’s a little loose too so I put high temp sealant around the base. Now If I yank the hose and cap off the air filter port and also the port on the EGR, would I inviting issues?

You can cap the tube on the top of the air cleaner. I currently have a 72 airbox on my 69 and did that.

That damn California retrofit EGR is a PITA and should be removed. You can yank the valve and pipe nipple and replace it with a galvanized plumbing plug. Don't have too long a thread or you will block the heat riser tube.

edit: Looks like you already removed the spacer/nipple adapter between the manifold and carb, so it's not mucking up your mixture anymore. That's a good start! Too bad they muck up the air cleaner upper part, but as posted, leave the adapter there and then plug it. For laughs, here is some info on the system:
