I have a 1971 bus with Westfalia weekender package. When I brake, the engine revs up, and when I release the pedal it returns to normal. The pedal is hard to press, but I’m able to stop. I’ve seen some posts that said their idle decreased when braking, and the problem could be either vacuum line or servo. What about when idle increases when braking? Any ideas?

The leaky booster is letting in more air into your intake.

Get this fixed so that you can stop, and before the lean running hurts your engine

Check the vacuum lines that run from the intake manifold in the engine bay to the plastic hardline section that goes to the brake booster up on the front beam.
You could very well have a bad brake booster, but sometimes its a hose or piping issue. Stress fractures in the plastic tube can cause surges or bog-down symptoms when present, same with the vacuum hose being 45 yrs old.
