I've seen one beetle in my valley, pop 5k.
I do see buses fairly often though on the highway, probably 20-1 buses to beetles. _________________ Homemade woods/street, bug out rail. IRS, Balljoint front end. 1967 1600cc DP, Weber 32/36 progressive, tri-mil quiet pack. Rear only cutting brakes.

20 vs 1 that is interesting, the worldwide reality is probably more like the opposite. _________________ Roads Scholar &

I have a neighbor 4 houses down that has a convertible beetle sitting in his garage. I see it there when I drive by and the garage door happens to be open. The engine lid is propped open with a 2x4 and his beetle never comes out to play. I saw him out in front of his house once and asked him about it. I even offered to help him if there are any issues getting it running. The guy was polite enough, but not really that interested. He said he once tried to sell it but didn't like the low-ball offers he was getting. So the beetle stays in the garage and collects dust.
Made me wonder how many old air-cooled VWs are in a similar situation and sitting in barns and garaged across the country. _________________ 1963 Beetle

I'd ask him sometimes what offers he got. Sometimes they really are low ball offers, sometimes people think their car is worth a ton for no reason.
I might be biased though because I had a car I bought for $3500 that the guy said everyone was offering him $1000 for it. He was asking $5000, which was crazy but seriously... $1000 when the guy is asking $5000? GTFO.

Here in NJ air-cooled VW's are generally few and far between. I am very jealous of the CA people! Not that I have ever really considered it, but the VW scene would be a major reason why I would move to CA! _________________ 1972 Coupe |

In my town, 1, my 70 bug. When we first moved to town 15 years ago there was a split bus (23 window I think) that sat, never moved, then one day was gone. There was also an auto stick bug for a few years that seemed like it never moved, it too just disappeared one day. Total population of our town, 155 full time residents. _________________ 1970 Bug

This describes my situation pretty well, too. There are four on my half-a-block-long dead end street, one of which is mine. _________________ nothing |

In my North Georgia mountain town. I see regularly one early 70's bug, rusted out p.o.s.
I've seen a crapy yellow 70's baja flying the confederate banner once.
This town does have a road named Volkswagen Hollow LN.
When roads were named here there were two brothers in to air cooled VW's so they named their street that. |

4 squarebacks and 1 bug live at my house.
Down the street from me there is a house with another squareback, two with baywindows, and three others with bugs. _________________ '65 1500 S [quareback]

Many of my friends who have old VW's daily drive them year around, myself included. There aren't too many in my neighborhood that I know of but I see 2-3 driving everyday. I saw a ton in the Tacoma Washington area last time I was up there. _________________ 71 Super - Backroad Thrasher

My '72 Beetle is the only aircooled in the neighborhood. My dad has a '71 Ghia though, he lives 4 miles away. There is also a '73 Beetle about a mile away from me that looks to be maintained and is currently registered but I have never seen it move. |

There are several in my neighbor in East Sacramento. I live on a corner house with my 72 super. Another corner house ( same intersection ) has a beautiful 66 conv. Karmann Ghia done with nothing left to want. Other corner has a 71 super survivor that can use work but is all there and functional. 1 1/2 blocks down another neighbor has a 71 conv. super with new top but needs everything else. It is a functional driver. Those are just the ones I can see from my front yard.
Many others I see in the neighborhood including a 76 conv super, restored and driven frequently, and old blue Karmann Ghia driven by an old man frequently. A dozen houses down the block is a 69 bus in decent shape. He has owned for 17 years.
A 68 camper bus works at a burger shack 3 blocks down. A 67 bug lives 8 blocks down.
I've seen others on the road here so I know they are local.
And then there is Frank's Auto Repair shop across from the burger shack who specializes in old Porsches...drool.
A lot of acvw's here in East Sac. |

Lets see... in my city of close to 100,000 people, I know of many VWs, but few of them are daily drivers. Currently two late Beetles (one super, one standard), a couple of bay window buses, and the fastback that I am driving. Come winter, it is unlikely any of these will still be on the road... _________________ 1974 "Restfalia" Camper 2000 cc EFI 2001-

There's one parked in my next door neighbor's driveway. And a Baja down the street. And I have two 356's if they count. |
