Got a brief email today from Francois today. He has a project on Kickstarter and I'm just letting you know. PM me for particulars. I also posted it on Facebook (yes I finally joined). Hope you are all well, miss you.

oh THANK you VERY MUCH!

I've asked him to send me an email or a message on Facebook when he has a chance with all his news. I've thought a lot about them lately.

My dear friends and fellow Vanagon lovers. As some of you know, and perhaps some did not, we sold our beloved Kaya due to some financial reasons I rather not go into at the moment. It has been painful to look at the Samba because I met so many great people here and shared so many great memories of my life driving my Kaya. Even tonight as I sat outside downing a pint a guy stopped me and asked if I was Aswah who had the bus. It absolutely blew my mind. What a fantastic bunch of folks that reside here. Do I miss Kaya? YES mostly and a bit of no. The yes reasons are beyond obvious to anyone who has ever owned one. I say no because, while my new car is rather soulless, it does not cost a fortune to drive. Will I own a bus again? If my wife reads this than absolutely not (big freaking wink wink there). We may stray to the Sprinter side of life in between but a bus will always be part of my life. Yes living in PDX is great except I am reminded of my lose at least five thousand times a day. My latest endeavor has been to raise money to print a small run of my cookbook. Think of it more as barn raising with rewards for you. Someone already kindly posted the link but I will do again here: bit.ly/KickstartSunshine Do not be suprised one day to see a multi colored bus pull up next to you someday soon! BLESSINGS!

Good luck Francois! (How do you make an accent cédille on a mac keyboard?)
I'm sure Sandra will be getting your cookbook. She's a big Julia fan and this year left her corporate job and is working as a pastry cook.
If you were to, say, drop by MogFest this weekend you could try one of her cookies!

Firstly ... Best of Luck to you and your family, François. (Like that, Dave? Wink )

Dave ... open keyboard preferences & on the keyboard (default) tab click "show keyboard & character viewers in menu bar"
it takes a moment each time, speeding up a bit w repetetive usage, then when you have a letter(s) to adjust / accent you highlight it, click on character viewer from menu bar, click on the letter you are 'manipulating' and your many options shw below. double click toe one you want... and voilà!!.
over time it remembers your favourites / recently used; which helps speed things up.

Me too - and I agree. I have a goal to cook, at least, one meal from this book and not just look at the pictures.

Pledged!

Aswah, best of luck with your project.

Recipe preview: Aswah was kind enough to post some of his recipes here. I have made the Asian Sauce and "Provencal Sunshine", and can attest to their supreme yumminess.

Can we please have some descriptive words in the subject line instead of one cryptic nonsense word?

well, in fact, the 'one cryptic nonsense word' is François' Samba forum name.
... kind of like an eleven letter 'word' staring with a 'G' and ending with an 's'

although YMMV ... when encountering a 'cryptic' subject line, I (only my astute opinion) find I either pass it by or, if feeling curious ... I will click on it and see 'what's beneath the cover' ... sometimes I read on; others I do not

again, personally, I have never found the need for me to get in a 'tizzie' over these thins. again; IMHO.

Happy Weekend, everyone

Hi friends,

I am giving this thread a bump.

Kickstarter being kickstarter, our friend Aswah (that is his Samba username, real name Francois) is about 80% of the way toward his goal, but needs a strong finish to make it happen.

On this forum he has posted some outstanding trip reports, recipes, and is overall a solid contributor to the Westy world. His cookbook but will certainly be a good addition to your food library.

A modest $25 gives you a cookbook and helps out a fellow Samba member. Help François live his dream, jump over to that link and go for it!

Step Up,
CJ
