Hi everyone,
After spending countless hours reading the various threads about the Pertronix system, I have decided to take the plunge and order the system to replace my points.
I have a bone stock 72 Karmann Ghia with a 1600. I read a few threads that note that the Pertronix points replacement system works best with their coil, so I will go that route as well.
If anyone has the specific part numbers for the ignition system and the coil, I would be most appreciative.
Also is a condenser still needed with the Pertronix system?
Thanks,

The best I can come up with is:
Pertronix Ignitor: 1847V
Pertronix Coil: 40511
Do those two part numbers match what is needed for my totally stock car?
Thanks,

It eliminates the condenser.
Call Pertronix with the distributor part number and i'm sure they'll help you/ _________________ Glenn

Zack, I'm 100% sure that Pertronix will tell you not to use the condenser with their system. However, I was testing a Pertronix for a Ford distributor on my test rig (not a car) and using the standard condenser in conjunction with a standard canister coil made the spark noticeably stronger. It slowed the voltage rise time prior to spark formation just as it does with points, but the stored energy is given back in the early stages of the spark (just like with the Kettering system). I would suggest that regardless of what the folks at Pertronix will tell you, that you can try keeping the condenser as it will not damage the pertronix unit. Depending on the coil and if your plug gap is kept at a normal gap, you might actually find your car runs better with the condenser in place along with the pertronix unit. In other words, it won't hurt to try it. Have fun, Fred
