A mild custom BD: what would you like to see turn up, or perhaps build?
Im thinking nothing too wild
So please no outrageous body mods, or ultra rare model years (i.e. a '49), bad taste, or obscure factory options...something believable...not a funky green metal fantasy (see other threads for that)...keep it real
State year, model, rims, engine, paint choice, stance, interior option...
Maybe it will help encourage someone to build it...
Mild - think perhaps Johnny's Baboon, or that beige SC that arrived late at The Barndoor Gathering at OCTO 2012, or Buzz's 54 Standard
Id like to see:
54/55 Kombi, based on a North American or European base bus
Clean satin Dove Blue paint
No rot
Stock interior - with all 3 seats trimmed in original style black vinyl, but in a fat biscuit style
Original BD Safaris
Hot motor (not old school), 5 speed straight-axle gearbox, Gene Berg shifter
Original early Fuchs, still in their original factory finish, 4.5s front, D6s rear
Firestone F560 tyres
Dropped, level stance _________________ -StockRocks- |

like your general idea
all 3 seats trimmed in original style black vinyl, preferably diamond stitch
front seats could be pseudo singles, padded as singles but still stock style brackets
interior would have to be wood panels, top to bottom, front to back, tops and bottoms of door and side panels trimmed or painted gray,
wheels would have to be salt flats, red line radials, 185/15s
stock style shifter, not a fan of the berg shifter's look
defintely some vintage style logos
definitely semaphores, no blinkers _________________ regards

I'd love to see the Kohlruss Coachbuilt ( it is THE Custom BD anyways) in its original paint of pale yellow/pearl opal green/white roof, dropped over yellow 16s with green VW logos on chromed caps, stainless/chromed ribbed bumpers front/aft, a 30hp Okrasa or Denzel and red outlinings/trim moldings all over the bus. It needs green tinted plexy glass and yellow headlights. It should have a rubber rake 6.50 to 4.50 Firestone bias plies.
let's add whitewalls, a tall roof peak antenna and chromed Hella horns to the front bumper _________________ Hotrods, Fords, Veedubs and Triumph Twins !

double door sunroof kombi the early the better but with a rear bumper and rear opening hatch option
either dove blue or the light beige/dark brown combo or maybe some other unique vw color combo
drop spindle in front sak with '68 bug geared tranny in back mild 1776 with dual idfs and hidden exhaust system
cab area will be mostly stock with hidden upgrades
cargo area will have two seats facing each other that fold out into a bed for camping _________________ '60 15 window walkthrough

how about this idea
build a barndoor camper airstream?
behr scoop, silver painted and airbrushed to have the old airstream panel look
airstream wheels
paneling and interior custom built from reclaimed wood, to make it vintage,
would need to have a airstream blue zipp dee awning, airstream number painted on the back
airstream blue stripe on the belt line,
commercial bumper to hold airstream propane bottle _________________ regards

I wouldn't be big on the look of the Berg T-handle... but the Berg ball might suit the build... and maybe black out the chrome on the vertical:

That looks like white paint to me. The blown up image looks strange I agree, but it has been seen that enlarging images does strange things to the appearance of colours etc _________________

Chromed & painted bumper

I don't think bumper paint would provide the mirror image of the cable on the right side of this pic.
The bumper ribs don't match the emblem... and they typically should.
I think it's just a dirty bus & chrome isn't showing it's shine. _________________ aka: Evan

Maybe the bumpers centre are painted silver, but I doubt they're chrome.
Single stripe is standard on kombis _________________
