Hey Guys,

Thought you'd be keen to see my latest acquisition Cool

I was given a lead on this about 3 years ago by a good customer of mine who used to slash the block where this this was. I've never been successful getting in contact with the old bloke who owns the property. Notes left, many visits etc, but all to no avail.
That all changed last Thursday when I had to attend a first aid refresher course for work. It just happened to be around the corner from where the bus was! So on the 15 minute morning tea break I thought I'd try my luck!
Low an behold, the old boy was walking his dog in the backyard! I was able to chat to him, and found out that it was parked up there by his son inlaw 30 odd years ago! He told me he would like to see it gone, so a deal was done and a time arranged!

Couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that it was a RHD SO42 camper!

So today was rescue day! Thanks heaps to Chris for his help today, couldn't have done it without you mate!

It was parked up in the early 80's after being driven from Darwin. His son inlaw left it there as he had to start a new job in far north QLD. He never returned to collect the bus, so it had been in the same spot since.

A massive log had to be shifted and a couple of small trees cut down, but otherwise it was a fairly easy rescue!
Chris suggested we try and put some air in the tyres and see if they would hold air. I'm still in disbelief that they all did! It was then hitched up to the mighty Touareg and pulled out of it's resting place.

Excellent! Can't wait to see the initial clean up pics. Imagine if he had parked it in that building.

Thanks for the kind words guys!

Here are a few more pics for you to enjoy. After we got it to the driveway, it was time to rope it all together to avoid anything falling off or coming open.

Nothing better than a Westy rescue! Keep the pics coming, especially interior pics including the mcode plate and Fabrik-nr. plate. Not many RHD SO42's around.

Fantastic save!

Somewhere Gerson is smiling at the potential metal panel sales for it!

Keep updating this thread as you work on it!

Thanks Lads!

Yeah, I've already had to sell a kidney to fund the Gerson Panels on my Barndoor Laughing

My friend John has run the numbers and confirmed this!

Headlamps for RHD
USA Export Program
Pearl White

Interesting that its a RHD destined for the USA. Maybe someone did a world tour and finished in Australia?

Had a little bit more of a clean up and the interior is in incredible condition! Sat and had a beer in it this arvo Cool

Is there a Fabrik-Nr. tag, usually on the lower right face of a RHD bed:

It looks like when they pulled the original ice box and replaced it with the electrolux unit they kept the small table and attached it to the forward cargo door.

For how crusty the outside looks I can't believe how clean that interior came out. Are the front curtains usable?

Not sure they'd be useable? I'll have to get back to you on that. I'd imagine they'd be pretty brittle.
