I'm in the process of tearing down my '58
It's very straight and dry. I don't need to replace rockers and no other major welding is required. I am indecisive because I would really like to get 100% paint coverage. With the beam and tranny in, is it going to be almost impossible? |

You are looking to paint the entire chassis and undercarriage?
If you remove the fuel tank you will find pretty good access up front for painting. Out back remove the engine and transmission. _________________ Ghia Owner Emeritus |

Yes, I want to paint all. Problem I will have is that if its has to be a roller so spayer can handle it in and out of booth. |

If doing a nut and bolt type restoration you might not be entirely happy with it unless you do take it off the pan... But I ended up not taking my vert off the pan because of worrying about body twist. They say it's fine as long as you do the correct bracing. Wasn't worth it in my case though. |

Never seen a shop that didnt have dollys to move projects around. Shouldnt be a problem. You can also search several threads on dollys that members have built for that reason.
That car looks nice! Looks good in black.
Color change? |
Thanks. No color change. Original Black Ghia.
I want to be able to have the beam off and tranny/motor out. Guess I could build some sort of dolly and have it mounted to tranny horns and front other for front beam mounts. Yep..thats gonna be the plan. |

On a vert you would need to brace the door apertures if you do take the body off the pan. If you have no rust to access then why mess with the original join? Its not hard to do it but on a dry Ghia I've never understood the benefit. _________________ Dan

Here's a trans frame horn dolly on a bus. I've seen others a simple as a piece of angle iron with a single caster (centered). Can do similar up front at beam mounting location... even with just two wheels.
