84 starter

Sorry for lazy post but short on time to search. Is an 84 starter the same as an 87 starter? Both are stick shifts. Trying to help a young guy from cali with a bad starter. He has an 87wolfsberg and i have an 84 parts van with a good starter. Thanks.
Just looking at van cafe site it shows the same part number. Is this correct ?

The early starter will work but has less cranking power.

Thanks. I was trying to find starter in the O holy bently. Funny how fridgerator and sunroof warrant their own lines in the glossary. But not something that ALL vans have gets its own line. I almost hate that book. Yes i said it.
