Sometimes we do what we can Bob. Rolling Eyes Im not in any position at the moment to make this thing perfect. I have yet to drive it and enjoy it. Let me have that first.

You want perfection, go look at what I have spent time on - the 74 bus.

Yeah, I looked thru the first 19 pages of that bus last night (was bored), and you really did a nice job on it. I'm sure your girlfriend really appreciates you spending money like that on her stuff too. So, has the paint flaked again on the roof? The gas heater install pics were great, as you never really get to see something like that (they're always buried deep inside the vehicle, with crappy pics barely showing them). Nice job. I'll have to look at the final 11 pics of that thread soon. Wink

So when I bought this little wonder, having it finally safe in my care, I noticed a faded front trunk liner. At first, you think it will be ok, be happy it has an intact one. But that fade bugged the crap out of me.

Do I paint it? Do I cover it with that seat vinyl?? I came close till I remembered the fellow I bought the seat recliners from and the parcel tray about 3-4 years back. He has a still running ad for nos front trunk cardboard liners. So I looked him up, found the ad, and no shipping. Mad But that's ok, he's up in the Riverside area, an hourish up the road from me.

So one quick road trip later, less $85, a near-perfect replacement that was well worth the time and money.

Thanks again Steve!

Aha - Maybe I can pay you back for the master cylinder shield ??? Smile Mine out of my Fastback is by no means new, but it is comlplete. I also have the side pieces. Also the rear boot wheel arch covers and the grey mat, but that is for the Fastie so not sure if it is any good for you.

Might be a bit difficult to freight because I cannot roll up the cardboard. If you are interested pm me, so we aren't hijacking this thread, and I will send you some pics.

I found some nice, new, nos dual 6v horns to add to the notch. These may have been intended for a bike? Not sure of the manufacture, but they are loud and look the part. A lot cheaper than what people want for Hella fanfares these days.

OK, Dayum. Its been 3 years - December 3rd 2017 is when I installed the driver side seat recliners. Rolling Eyes Laughing

https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?p=8628071#8628071

Yesterday and today not knowing it was three years ago I started this Laughing I jumped back on it.

I tore down the passenger seat, fixed the base up a bit, painted it anthracite, cleaned paint off the knobs and plastic bits, then began the install on the seat back.

Below is the sequence of pictures I took while doing it.

Always look it over. Make sure the bits are there and fit. Lots of times these kits are missing the install plate and maybe the actuating rod.

Its important to make sure the L&R recliner on on the same notch. These were not and needed to be fixed by moving one, one notch to even them.

Pre assembly - making sure it all goes together.

Disassemble then use the recliner to measure along side the stock seat pivot. Mark out your holes, hack off some legs, drill some holes and test assemble.

Now assemble the recliners for the last time. Then slip them on, screw them down. Pop the whole assembled seat back onto the seat bottom. Next is testing it out in the car.

Looks good. So the seat backs are now held on by just 4 sheet metal screws. Seems like there would be some sort of tapping plate that went inside to help secure/strengthen their connection.

Yes. Four BIG wood screws. Wink Laughing It works well. And the coarse threads hold fast.

If they ever do come loose then Ill change them out with machine bolts and screws.

Having future plans to install a B2 Eberspacher Gas Heater, I pulled out an old timer I have had for awhile now. I dint know it was an older on/off type that goes back to early oval days. So it being in need of a serious clean up, I pulled it apart to clean and doll it up. The timer on it runs very strong and just needs some light oil.

I pulled it apart, cleaned up some of the plastic, ran the case/holder under the wire wheel. I didnt want to try to pop the exterior palstic ring off so I dropped it in evaporust.

Ill check back on this later. First pics are of another nice one.

Is that red faced knob a control for the heater? Or is it a later add on 4 way flasher switch?
