You may not be aware of this, but a family tree with actual branches can cause a long, healthy life.

Just sayin' is all.

So after pulling the Becker and finding that really nice Blaupunkt surround - the hardest part to find - as its for a T3. I went on the hunt for a nice Frankfurt or Koln to put in. I was fortunate to find a AM-FM Frankfurt here in Seattle. I went and met up with Pete in Burien and scored a working radio.

Im still looking for knobs, faceplate and rear bracket. But I have Scott hooking me up with the faceplate so that leaves the knobs and bracket.

It's hard to think about how many of these cool old radios got tossed throughout the 70's and 80's.
My first VW (back in 1980), a '71 squareback had an 8 track radio in it. Yep, tore it out and tossed it...

Like I was aying - that foam surround thats Type 3 specific is the hardest thing to find. Filling it with correct Blaupunt stuff is the fun part.

Scott - Got the bezel - looks great, thanks brother! I also bought some Porsche 356 repop knobs off the net.

All I need now is the rear hanger - Erik G was supposed to see if he had the hookup Think

Can't find it at all. I know it's here somewhere. I found 2 of the damn fronts 2 face plates and 2 radios...

When you got the hanger, please post a picture of it before and after installation.

I have some problems with radio installation in my 1964. I found a very nice 1965 Frankfurt with white buttons, white knobs and front and rear Type 3 installation brackets.

Unfortunately the rear bracket hits the fresh air hose under the dash and cannot be installed. There seems to be a different hanger for 1964 and earlier cars with the fresh air hose.

Other than dinking around getting a Blaupunkt to fit into the notch - I havnt done much. Even the antenna I replaced - Im replacing again with a Bosch Blue Tip.

The ignition in this car does not spring back and the key fitment leave a lot to be desired. Almost like its one of those close enough key but not the right one. So I bought a new correct ignition switch to replace the old one. Ill also repaint the whole column to a way better standard than it is presently.

Pulled it out and tore it down.

Put the new dash in with driver side door wrap around trim. Was able to replace the wrong dash screws with proper saddled ones. Looks good now. Its nice to use an nos piece - the side trim.

Wow, that brings back memories of my 64 1500S SB which looked just like that (same color) except it was a SB. Great cars as I drove mine up and down the coast to LA several times, slept in the back, lots of ski trips as mine had a gas heater!

Wow I took the column out in July Shocked Well its finally back in and the car is a runner again. The most Ive driven this is when we got it back from the container and I went for a ride with Stu. Thats it. Now that its running - well enough, I can get it into my home garage where I can start dialing stuff in like some of the shit electrical and details on the dual carbs. I may just pull the motor and repaint the tin as it looks shit, replace the pocked fan housing and just clean it all up. Think

Anyway here is the dash back together and fitted a repop visor.
